Chicago Wildlife Watch Talk
looks like an opossum, tail pointing left
oops, we may have run out of images, see the "wow busy day!" discussion....
almost looks like a kitteh, but I think it's a raccoon as seen in ACH000a790
yes, and we now have a name for it...cyclops rabbit
actually looks like a fox squirrel to me
that's the scent bag that lures the critters...it's usually attached to a tree as in ACH0008yq1, but sometimes the critters get frisky
most likely a deer, compare to third deer sample image
wow busy day, we went from 98% complete yesterday to "100%" today! over 2.7 million classifications! we may actually run out of images soon!
lined up to sample the fragrances
robin on the left, looks like another bird (dove?) a bit further left in the mid-background
compare to ACH0008jjn, think it might be the individual seen in ACH0008jjg
r-r-rabbit
yep, definite raccoon
think it's the funky deer seen in ACH000bsx2 ACH000bsx3
rabbits are the eyeshine champs
maybe a rabbit just right of the white post, fuzzy spot that's missing in other images from this camera
raccoon seems like a good guess, compare to ACH0009trc
yep, raccoons
I guess it's a Cyclops rabbit, but definite rabbit anyhow
something indeed, compare to raccoon in ACH0009u1p
awww
marvel-ous
not seeing anything but fog, compare to eyes in ACH00078n0
golden retriever
lots of eyeshine and adorable short fluffy tail makes this a r-r-rabbit!
most likely raccoon, we see a lot of similar images
definite raccoon
looks like a red fox, dark ears, dark legs
c-c-coyote
#actionsquirrel
shy grackle (?) left of tree
that's why "nothing here" gets a lot of use, most images to not contain an animal
looks like a juvenile coyote, even seems to have a dark tip to the tail
compare to ACH000f9g7
looks like a full-sized squirrel heading for the tree on the left
raccoon's ringed tail on right, on left: cat? (compare to ACH000b1ks ACH000b1kv) or opossum? (compare to ACH000b1kt ACH000b1kn) or raccoon?
definite opossum, just not the size of some
shape and downward attitude of tail (plus maybe dark tip?) say coyote, compare to ACH000fl6t
sounds right
yep, think there are five, two close to each other on the left...wonder if the one on the right is a family member, mama looks a bit tense
photo magic reveals this to be a raccoon, probably off to bed as the sun rises
at least two ringed tails if you look closely
the ears have it!
looks like a rat
lack of tail makes me think this is a rabbit with muddy feet, compare to young raccoons with mama in ACH000b5xr ACH000b5xs
we do get coyote here, so don't give up, but there's no going back once you make a pick...the wisdom of the crowd rules
nice rabbit...no one else can see your picks, so please call them out
long-legged raccoon
maybe a muskrat? tail looks too dark for opossum
deer hiding behind tree (and a couple of friends)
looks like a juvenile, ears seem oversized and head flatter than what we most often see
rabbit! rabbit! rabbit! (it's the 1st, although I did not just wake up)
h'mmm dark mask on that coyote, compare to ACH0009u23
snowy deer
who needs that pizza squirrel?
sideways squirrel
one of those mysteries
daytime snow opossum
h'mmm, looks like at least a couple of humans headed the same way as the alleged cat...very mysterious
#deer
low-light squirrel, looks more striped than in daylight
just an empty bottle...no coyotes in sight
another covert deer
tense raccoon versus opossum standoff
he's just trying to remember where he parked
nighttime opossum
daytime opossum
https://mcachicago.org/Exhibitions/2015/Surrealism-The-Conjured-Life
just another mystery of the night, might be someone's left arm there, but no way to be sure
definite critter there, you can make out the left ear, tough call, but looks like raccoon to me, think it may have a pizza box...
yep, looks like a young adult, not sure whose bottle that is
(think it was just a tree btw)
I'd go with possum, it's not there in adjacent images....
This is what happens if someone marks an image as human.
that is a raccoon, you can see the striped tail (thin, summer-weight version)
that's a rat
tough case, looks like mangy tail, coyote tails are usually held straight down, raised, curved tail may mean dog, but compare to ACH000ca7s
this camera is located in the Museum of Contemporary Art
corned beef sandwich? coyote may be realizing the wisdom of "never eat anything bigger than your head"
we thought this was fire a while back, check out ACH000g8wb and the other images in "slow burn"
yep, compare to ACH000gwsd
it looks like an ordinary plastic bag in ACH000fcp2, but at night, it's the terrifying apparition seen here and in ACH000fco8 ACH000fcoi
this is the Humboldt Park boathouse, one of the gems of the Chicago Park District system
actually looks like two young opossums side-by-side
yep, the size and dark legs make this a red fox, see also http://talk.chicagowildlifewatch.org/#/boards/BCH0000003/discussions/DCH00002c6
daytime raccoon looking for a bigger tree
deer with a strange feeling that it's being watched...
kitteh
looks like a resting deer
I'd call that a rabbit (or, r-r-rabbit!)
that's the scent bag used to attract the critters, you'll see one in most of the photos, except where raccoons and coyotes have stolen them
that is indeed a raccoon behind bars
another tough case -- compare to bunny in ACH000bs9h, curious deer in ACH000bs97, and coyote in ACH000bs9i
this is a tough one, but looking at the zoomed out (smaller) image, this might be a young opossum, lighter face and very pointy snout
striped tail indicates raccoon, compare to ACH000fn26...the trash probably indicates this is near a fishing spot
if you zoom way in, you may be able to see the long ears, but this is one stealthy rabbit
like a bird on a fence / so I must wonder whence
squirrel version of deer selfie
just a bunny, see ACH000a7dx ACH000a7dy
coyote-ish looking critter here in ACH0006wep
blob may be a 2nd rabbit, head down toward the right, compare to ACH000gd6j ACH000gd6o; "ears" on left end are just something behind fence
just a coy coyote
yep, opossum, dark legs with light body, tail does not register well in many photos
raccoons of the day
wow this spot is rat central
definite rabbit here, I think the dark spot is probably just something on the ground...
definite largish rabbit here in ACH000fmvo, this might be the same critter
h'mmm looks like a daytime feline to me
not sure on the pigeon count here
#opossum pair
deer showing off antlers
deer contemplates weed whacker
daytime coyote #pair
rat
cat working the graveyard shift
some day, CWW will let us draw little balloons to show what the animals are thinking
another crashed coyote
high-stepping fawn
bird and bunny 2-for-1 special
h'mmm, compare to ACH0009mta
that's a weed cutter leaning against the fence, but it's been leaning there a while...they put the scent bag on it at one point
skunks have very expressive tails
a coyote for all seasons -- ACH000f9tb
looking at the images near this one (URL-wise), the bright spot moves around, so I'd guess rabbit; stationary spot might be shiny junk
ah, the hand in this image does seem to match what's seen in ACH000btag...perhaps one of the camera volunteers?
ah, should have gone with fox squirrel just based on the attitude...
coyote with eye stripes
juvenile gray squirrel
unusually colored (gray?) squirrel revealing bits we don't usually see
rabbit keeping tabs on the supply chain
#opossum grooming -- almost looks adorable...
going up
deer ear exam (I went with "head up" here)
you bagged a golf cart, which used to count as "vehicle, other" but now can be ignored; the human at the wheel is what counts
might be a hint of a dark mask, so perhaps raccoon as seen in ACH000at2e
? still the same very slow-moving snake seen in ACH000c1zh and elsewhere
yep, looks like the big old rat in ACH000azo7, and not the nice rabbit ACH000azo9
#bird is the right pick, this is a common grackle, but bird covers ducks, grackles, geese, sparrows, sandpipers, doves, hawks....
well-groomed rabbit
stylish skunk
not sure -- compare to size of raccoons in ACH000avxo ACH000avxu
I think so, looks like there may be a small hollow in the tree, see ACH000ai00 -- also, stuck camera, lots of shots of nothing at this spot
bird making exit, stage right (screen left)
yep, shape says raccoon
yep, looks like two juvenile squirrels...you don't often see the little ones, even though the adults are everywhere
raccoons!
seems like it, see also ACH000b21m, plus two-tone dog ACH000b21n ACH000b21s
yep, definite gray squirrel
good find, but still puzzled by ACH000axbd / ACH000axbe, think this dog is too shaggy to fit the bill
seems to be coyote, but doesn't really give itself away, see ACH000h2io ACH000h2ip ACH000h2iq ACH000h2iu ACH000h2iv ACH000h2iy
might be a young coyote, red fox should have dark ears and legs
I was considering the hat hypothesis, but I think it's a critter, and the dark part is a tail based on the way the fur is running, so cat?
yes, Mr. McGregor keeps trying, but the bunnies are wise to him
looks like the same #redfox @gardenmaeve spotted in ACH000gvd4 (unusual dark spot high on the tail)
not a skunk; domestic dog would be a guess based on regular visits (day and night) to this spot; no info about dates/times is available
I'd vote gray squirrel here
just offer it a garter snake
the mystery continues; not a skunk, compare to skunks here in ACH000axb6 ACH000axcq ACH000axcr ACH000axcx
ah, we did get it to turn its head, ACH000cac3 (also ACH000caca)
snakes are very rare around here, but there is this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chicago_Garter_Snake
if we could only get it to turn its head...
ACH000axbd has same #whatsis in almost exact same pose, only in daytime...strange
r-r-rabbit!
#rabbit hopping away
clean and sober coyote
un chien écrasé, vraiment (actually a coyote, trying to find his car keys)
maybe two deer on left, facing tree, compare to ACH000c9f2
could be a corkscrew willow, Salix matsudana, 'Tortuosa'; it's prone to cankers, grows twisty branches
stick - ACH000c0m6 ACH000c1zh ACH000c13f
Heisenberg again
#deer #trio
raccoon hootenanny
almost looks like the opossum has been flattened by falling timber
up-down #squirrel #pair
think we have an alarmed deer, see ACH0009lp0
oops, wrong end of the rabbit
looks like a r-r-rabbit! to me
odd-looking rabbit, I'd be tempted to guess red fox kit due to the dark nose and light chest
yep, cat
hélas, le coyote rusé a volé le sac
actually this one appears to be a coyote (dark tip to the tail), and the one before (ACH000ax73) is one of our very large raccoons
I thought maybe coat plus gloved hand, but the green vegetation argues against it
we'll see what abloss says, but might be our common pigeon (rock dove); they're not always gray on gray
deer nose? (deer's head pointing down, light fuzzy part is deer chin?) deer hoof? can't even find more images from this spot to compare...
maybe coyote? compare and contrast coyote and really large raccoon seen here ACH000fn20 ACH000fn22 ACH000fn26 ACH000fn27 ACH000fn29 (kitteh)
I'd go with #raccoon for this blur
take a guess; I'd go with dog here, compare to ACH000gi32 ACH000gi37 ACH000gi38 ACH000gi3h -- this dog might be the one in ACH000gi3h
it does seem to belong
yep, this is a raccoon
and why is this deer not grazing on the green grass? mysteries abound....
French word for this: camouflage (chipmunk lower left); French for "chipmunk" is "Tamia", not to be confused with Canadian singer-songwriter
I wonder how many pictures we have of Flopsy resting there?
Comment peut-on voir l'oiseau ? Impossible! (Mais encore , il est là .)
also nice view of the metal barrier (or whatever that is)
I would go with r-r-rabbit! here, lots of eyeshine and a tendency to move quickly or stay very still
size and shape of faintly visible body says this is a raccoon, head turned to its right and tilted
#redfox
#opossum, head way down, but you see the dark ears -- the "eye" next to the tree is probably shiny junk
looked like #skunk to me too
dog is likely, this seems like another big dogwalking spot
possibly pac-man.....
I'm sure there's a perfectly logical explanation, such as nighttime lawn care by a tall gray extraterrestrial...
#actionsquirrel (low light edition)
ah, I see an Action Squirrels! update
#actionsquirrel (sadly, DZM has left, not sure what's become of the actionsquirrel collection)
mink are darker and skinnier; raccoon seen here ACH000bdib ACH000bdid
might be a dog, but might be coyote with mange -- also the tail is almost straight, suggests coyote
that spot always seems to there, most likely shiny junk, I've never been able to see an animal, just the glow
based on what I can see of the leaves, this might be a very young stand of eastern cottonwood (Populus deltoides)
only a few feet from Lake Michigan, thirsty look may be a bit deceptive
don't miss the #actionsquirrel to the right of the tree trunks
#beardog
those are cut by humans, probably removing buckthorn or other invasive species -- beavers leave a stump that's obviously been gnawed
actually the whole city was more or less a swamp not too long ago...https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chicago_Portage
rabbit hide-and-seek
went with coyote here, but tail is odd, could be rogue dog
bipedal rabbit (lapin bipède)
daytime cemetery #coyote
#skunk parade
bear dog again -- starting collection
just electric lights in the distance -- not moving in ACH000ij4a and following
Mars Cheese Castle, http://www.marscheese.com -- not far from Bong Recreation Area and Petrifying Springs Park
yep, coyote pup
looks like a fox squirrel, gray squirrel has a light fringe to the tail (although this one's tail is in poor shape)
see "flying deer" chat discussion for what our local deer can do (less beer and cheese curds in their diet)
that's our bear dog, nose toward the camera...seems like we've seen the same dog in 3 or 4 different spots
I've seen that several times at this spot, thought it might be a rabbit at first, more likely shiny junk
I suspect this is the worst deer selfie so far -- compare to ACH000c9ob ACH000c9odh and my favorite ACH000c9oj -- camera too high for canid
stick - ACH000c0m6 ACH000c1zh
a new bird record?
deer found south of the Cheddar Curtain
#fawn
young #opossum (adorable at this size)
le lapin laisse de grandes empreintes
#actionsquirrel (s)
#squirrel #pair #scuffle
#opossum #pair rendezvous
deer of the day
désolé, je pense qu'il's un fantôme, voir ACH000f3zg
les lapins ont un air de mystèr
the background light is not moving compared to ACH000cgd2, so I suspect it's artificial
We see a lot of tails at the edge of the frame, so it may be that the animals are too fast. See the help discussion on the right....
mercifully, there's no longer a "car" classification....
opossum meets Superdawg
looks like a brightly-colored bird, but tough to id the species
looks like it was still in a plastic box, we've seen the cameras use these translucent boxes to tote their gear
ah, got it now
nice view of the Humboldt Park boathouse, but I think someone was moving the camera
deer a good bet, compare to ACH000fnca
ok, not seeing the bird here...
lots of eyeshine plus rapid motion = rabbit!
we've seen this before, but no idea as to the cause...maybe slugs or bugs?
seems like a dark tip the very skinny tail...maybe the coyote has mange
le lapin attend toujours
see chat discussion, raccoon issues a big focus for the nation's newspaper of record
or raccoon? see ACH000a71r ACH000a7bl
now that's a grackle....
went with #deer here...ACH0008jo2 confirms it
a belated Happy New Year to all! (perhaps someone should call this raccoon a taxi...) the CWW is back online after a NYD outage
yep, one Canis familiaris trying to blend in
that's an #opossum, light-colored face and body, darker ears and legs, can't see the bare tail in this one
#squirrel pair
#rabbit!
seems like a different version of the scent bag, not moving in several images, think we have seen something like this before
young fox squirrel striking a pose
Chicago weather
I suspect this is our favorite loitering rabbit doing its owl impression, check out ACH000h4i3 ACH000h4i1 ACH000h4i7 ACH000h4i4 and so on
yep, dark tip on the tail says coyote, almost looks like it's caught a roadrunner or something
I'd go with rabbit in mid-hop
zoomed in, you can see the dark mask around the eyes, so raccoon
looks like a rabbit to me!
dark mask says this is a very blurry raccoon
Pour maigrir, il faut courir...
daytime #coyote
finally decided this was a bird, maybe a grackle, but can't explain the closely-spaced glowing eyes
see comments for ACH000c1zh, ACH000c0m6, and ACH000c0yq
hungry-looking young coyote
we've seen coyote puppies here before, check out my collection...
looks like a piece of wood, but that human should be tagged as human
adding scent to the scent bag
just a stick, see comments ACH000c1zh and ACH000c0m6, and rabbit in ACH000c0z0; seems like this camera is stuck snapping at mostly nothing
yep, looks like fox squirrel to me
#rabbit
light-colored fur points to opossum, compare to ACH0008ja4 (different location)
compare to rabbit in ACH000casw, raccoon in ACH000cate, opossum in ACH000casa; maybe rabbit doing a bit of digging?
#deer selfie or deer eye exam?
nothing like a good scent bag
so cute, but does not make a good housepet
comparing this one to ACH000gbdn, don't see anything moving...photo magic doesn't reveal anything, either
#flyingsquirrel (see 2nd sample image)
it's gone in ACH0004aeo, looks like a 2nd squirrel
#opossum with its head held high
#mouse up a tree
busted near west side park; view of phone company building with art deco panels over the entrances; 1km from the house Jordan built
daytime view of the freight yard
busted this location, small park just off Stevenson Expy., background's a storage yard for freight trailers, interestingly lit at night
a little blurry, but I went with coyote
just got this image, voted for gray squirrel based on posture
#actionsquirrel going over the wall
2 #deer camping out
looks like an opossum going vertical; their tails are often hard to see anyway since they tend to look like the sticks littering the ground
yep, deer
fox and gray squirrel together?
just a pine cone or two; somebody "adjusted" the camera for us, so rare to see an animal here
just chillin', dark tip on the tail ids it as coyote
squirrel demonstrating proper climbing technique
ACH0005riz
take me to your leader
I'd go with gray squirrel here
that's an opossum -- the light-colored fur and darker ears are clues, along with the conical snout
the coyote's looking at you
dark ears and light fur make this juvenile opossum, not rat
Désolé, je suis en retard! Désolé, je suis en retard!
too bad we don't have "sink, kitchen" as an option
no, incorrectly marked as human, pretty clearly squirrel and tree, although upside down
I agree with dog, dogs tend to hold their tails up; also, adjacent images show this is a popular dog spot
yes, we've seen this deer resting here before...
I'd go with coyote, you should be able see black stockings on a fox
raccoon, we see a lot of raccoons where the tail looks like this
well-fed gray squirrel contemplates the downed bird feeder
#squirrel feeding on ?????
looks like a resting deer, compare to ACH000bsvj
yes, small percentage of images have errors like this
well not a mower, might be dashboard of car due to reflective background..."nothing here" is the right choice for shots like this
most likely a deer's hindquarters, we get a lot of deer closeups
yep, chances are, we get a few of these
looks like way overexposed tracks in the snow, faint darker spots near lower left
looks like long ears, may be a young rabbit, color seems about right (darker and more uniform than adult rabbits)
#rat, #rabbit, or ???????
sure looked like a rabbit near the scent bag, but seems more like vegetation based on nearby images
#deer trying to make scents of it all
more dog fashion
also seems like another stuck camera, lots of snaps just like this one
maybe there is something in the lower left, but we don't have a "snowman" classification, so #whatsis
now I see the "wings", being zoomed out helps...these things happen, I mistook the front end of a deer for the rear end of coyote once...
on the tree? I'm not seeing movement in ACH00078uc ACH00078ud ACH00078uf
#actionrabbit
can't see any animals even with photo magic, maybe artificial lights? but nothing similar is visible in adjacent images...
art shot of the day; also bird at the center of the ripples on the right [edit: not a duck]
domestic dog as seen in ACH000hb3x ACH000hb40, thought at first it was one of those space monkeys we've had such a problem with...
saw the bottle, almost missed the bird
everybunny likes an interesting scent
#actionsquirrel goes for the camera
probably just trash, not moving in ACH000a5lz and a couple of other shots
not moving in ACH000c1zg and other images, so probably just a stick
aka sample mouse 1 (not a DJ, just a mouse)
I made a wrong id here, ACH00049ff shows the subject more clearly
he can scratch his own back if he raises his chin a bit more
hmmm more like groundhog day...compare to ACH000caoy, then see ACH000capa ACH000capc ACH000capd ACH000cape and so on...long rest
raccoons like to climb, check out "Raccoon Nation" from PBS, you may find clips on pbs.org or youtube...maybe on the CBC as well
duck after dark
#raccoon
vertical rabbit, ears up, tail on the ground
now there's a Cardinalis cardinalis for you
vertical raccoon
deer, chin up
the black thing on the tree is the scent bag that lures the critters in...you'll see one in most shots...welcome aboard!
opossum it is, clear view of the tail against the tree, dark legs and ears, reasonably conical snout
it's some kind of tree part, see discussion for ACH0006kci
I'd go with opossum, tail horizontal and pointed to the left
maybe squirrel being squirrelly? or a rabbit in its habitat?
definitely raccoon, peering intently at something
rare two-dimensional opossum
just shiny junk, see ACH000c5a4, maybe another plastic bottle?
short, fluffy tail, think this is a rabbit caught mid-hop
really head down #opossum
similar pose seen in ACH000h2it, coyote a good guess
clicked "nothing here" too fast, missed the deer? dog? coyote? on the right...
yep, think I see two legs, maybe head is down just outside the frame
leaning coyote? something there in this shot, but nothing at all in many shots on either side...maybe a stuck camera
yep, raccoon, dark mask visible if you zoom way in...
nothing but some interesting shapes
shy raccoon
think the shadow tells the story here...dog with its nose to the ground...leash on the ground...compare to ACH0009t7h (different dog)
skunk has head down, tail up....
looks like raccoon in ACH000bsd1 ACH000bsdh, not opossum in ACH000bsd2 or fox in ACH000bsd4 ACH000bsd5
opossum hanging out, see ACH0005zv3 ACH0005zv4 ACH0005zv6 ACH0005zv8 ACH0005zv9 ACH0005zva ACH0005zvc
low camera here at raccoon central, compare to ACH0009tz9 ACH0009tzr ACH0009tzf ACH0009tzl
something there in upper left, maybe ghostly tail of another raccoon?
that's likely the tail end of a raccoon, we see a lot of shots like this one, sometimes with a bit more animal
Rusty Blackbird...sounds like a decoction containing spirituous liquors
yellow-shouldered blackbird is native to Puerto Rico, and has curvier beak (thanks Wikipedia)
tough one, might have a thin red stripe on the shoulder, so possibly red-winged b-bird, but might be a grackle
one good scent deserves another
sadly, not hopping in ACH0008paa and following images
very cool plug-in; thought the bird had caught a big moth, but it's just a squashed beer can
compare to ACH000baj1, probably just some hungry vegetation from outer space, safest to tag it "nothing here" and move along quickly
the Air Force says it's "swamp gas"
raccoon it is, we see a lot of shots with the tail like this
somehow Dog n Suds comes to mind
went with #coyote
northern flicker #bird
zoomed in, I see the diamond logo of a Superdawg, which combined with Mason's previous comments puts this raccoon on the Des Plaines river
tough one...color says opossum, size and shape may say raccoon...on balance, I'll go with opossum
raccoon crossing an improvised bridge just beyond the city lights
still just a squirrel, my "head down, tail up" theory applied only to skunks, as in ACH0004r7u, squirrels are just squirrelly
lots of "eyes" along the waterline and in the background, but no clear id possible
bird with honeycomb (?) on the right, another bird on the left
I see one squirrel peering over the scent bag, not finding a second one
rare three-legged headless white deer
might be wood kitty, see ACH000a9tr
#coyote bedding down in the snow
zoomed out, it looks like a raccoon with tail towards the camera; zoomed in you can almost imagine it's facing the camera...eyes closed
I came across ACH000fmy7 and some others here a while back, but most likely those were cat...not sure about this one
see ACH00066uh for another angle and also ACH00066uq for a nighttime shot, tail coloration looks very similar, dark stripe but not gray fox
lots of eyeshine, could be a hungry rabbit (although I think it's a head-down deer)
sure looks like a rat
#redfox, maybe doing the canid roll
mainly just tracks in the snow, maybe a tail or paw in the lower right
super sparkly snow
looks like kitty in ACH000624l, I imagine I can read "vodka" on the bottle in the foreground...(though cats by and large prefer gin)
good eyes, we watch squirrels, squirrels watch us
so much for my theory
yep, you can see a rabbit face under the leaf
yes, raccoon
I'm guessing dog, compare to ACH000b3og
the object at the waterline in the upper left doesn't move much (see ACH00099y7), and is kind of spherical, I'm thinking a stray marker buoy
they're in almost every photo (see the featured discussion "scent bag, or what's that black thing?"), but they're usually flat
yep, bare tail and dark legs are pretty clear, think you can even see dark ears
not seeing anything move in adjacent images, think it's all just poorly lit vegetation
yep, no dark stockings, so coyote
the speckled wings suggest starling; not sure about the thing on the tree, maybe a new version of the scent bag?
may be my imagination, but fox squirrels seem less timid than grays
I guess it's the shy deer from ACH00067xg
I'd guess raccoon, but not an easy id
young daytime coyote
well-camouflaged rabbit doing a little grooming
#actionraccoon
color too light for raccoon, compare to ACH0006dz1 (size can be deceptive)
awful skinny tail, maybe mangy coyote, see ACH000cg38 for size comparison
#actioncoyote (hope those rocket-powered roller skates work out ok)
I think there's a eye there, might be a squirrel feasting on fungus, compare to ACH000b33u, the light-colored blob has moved around
you'd probably see dark ear tips if it were a fox, so likely coyote
looks like the hindquarters of dog, domestic
looks like a bird at the water line, right foreground; not sure what the thing on the tree in the middle is, compare to ACH000cb8m
more evidence for my "head down, tail up" theory of skunks
yes, coyote, see discussion for ACH000518e
I'd go with deer, see ACH000bswc ACH000bswg ACH000bswj
clear raccoon on the left if you zoom, I'll bet second raccoon on the right
phenylacetic acid provides the scent, canids love a nice strong odor
sometimes the same image appears with a different image id (URL), for example ACH0005cy4 and ACH00054sm, but shouldn't get same id twice...
fox squirrel waiting for spring
squirrel showdown
no bunny here, even with lots of photo magic...there is a bright spot near the right edge, but nothing moves between ACH000ex1t and here
actually two coyotes, one super-faint on the right, legs too long for fox
I agree with #coyote, fox would have dark stockings, also you can kind of see the dark tip of the tail here
thankfully, we no longer have to count cars
we have quite a few views of quiet areas like this one
lot of tail, I think we got a rat
looks like the shadow of whatever that is stuck in the tree on the left, we've never quite figured that out
also this camera seems stuck, lots of snaps of nothing
doesn't move in following images, probably shiny junk, we've seen cans or bottles that make "eyes" like this
looks like a raccoon, also woodchucks seem to prefer the daylight
And those "eyes" beyond the fence on the right are probably shiny junk
I'd go with opossum, lighter body, darker legs, maybe a hint of a bare tail
squirrel, tail towards us, I'd guess gray squirrel, maybe a light fringe to the tail
#actiondog
I see one coyote, sniffing the branch, not sure about the second, some bright leaves that look like eyes
sure looks like a giant badminton racket; I think this camera is stuck, see recent comments on "Unsure" in science discussion board
ah, you haven't experienced the wonder of #arthur http://talk.chicagowildlifewatch.org/#/collections/CCHS000043
seems too sharp, you'd usually see a blur versus two clear images
we have the European starling, but it really likes North America http://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/european_starling/id
seems to be two young opossums (opossa?) side-by-side, looks like two eyes and two noses
yes, these small white-tails are the only deer you'll see on CWW (barring escapes from captivity)
neat trick, eyeshine in the daytime....
1 deer species, white-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus), maybe the "northern" (borealis) subspecies, maybe a new more compact version
probably another duck, see 6 ducks / 2 grackle ACH0006f4o (not seeing geese here)
I'd guess #dog based on the size, see ACH0004c3p
we do see raccoons with skinny tails, either young or summer coat
they probably resent being called "Common" (they are actually very cool, with iridescent colors)
maybe some white "eyes" in the bare section of the nearest tree? (looks more like Lyle the Crocodile to me)
I think we have a new species
can smell it from here almost
part of it is there in ACH000cajm (with bird); there's water here in ACH000caj1 and following; can't tell if it's fungus, shellfish, or what
doesn't seem to have the dark stockings of a fox, and probably not enough tail, so I'm guessing blurry raccoon (?)
h'mmm, be aware that "poached" images don't show up on the recent page..."poached" is when you get to image by URL, versus the identify page
sometimes hard to tell predator from prey, compare to daytime coyote in ACH000b3av; hind leg looks a little skinny for coyote in this one
that's a #rabbit showing off its powerful hind legs (and lots of eyeshine)
too high off the ground, think that's a deer's nose, compare to ACH000cap5 (same spot as Daniel's resting deer....)
I'd go with #cat, see ACH000b1n0 ACH000b1n3 ACH000b1n4 (lots of raccoon shots in between)
seems like we're having website problems right now, based on how the "recent" page looks, not sure it that explains this many broken images
gotta love that, good tail action, deer case proved, and we got twerking captive Waschbären http://imgur.com/gallery/AUhlW90
that happens, once in a while we even see the same image with a totally different id (not adjacent)
yep, black tip to the tail is probably enough of a clue; also you can use just the image id, like ACH000bs5o, to link to other images
a human, no doubt setting up the camera...there's no on/off switch....
that's a Common Grackle (Quiscalus quiscula)
that's a young (?) raccoon, you can see the dark mask
hard to be sure, but ACH000527j suggests this may be a golden retriever selfie
I'd guess raccoon, tail blurry, see ACH000h2xe
@boleyn, coyotes are pretty common now even in the city, I think coyote in ACH000h31g is about 9 km north of downtown Chicago...
wow, super faint, but yes, looking at ACH0008b5i, there seems to be canid on the right, head down here, head up in the next one
I'd guess 2nd raccoon, you can kind of see 2 closed-spaced eyes, maybe a hint of a dark mask
I'm guessing there's a rabbit there, but photo editor no help here
looks like another scent bag heist in progress
another glimpse of an ear-tagged coyote, east of Lake Shore Drive, if my guess is correct (not a whole lot of dry land east of LSD)
that's Wile E. Coyote (Carnivorous Vulgaris), wonder if that's an ACME scent bag...
h'mm, are the cameras waterproof?
dog and shadows
I think the opossum may be grooming a hind leg, so it's twisted around a bit
lighter fur on top, darker legs, may mean opossum, sometimes the tail is hard to see
I seem to be having a run of rabbits, here's one making an exit, stage left
the canine fashion parade continues
Superdog again?
I've noticed a lot of runs of 2 or 3 from the same spot, so maybe it's random within a certain range of images, not the whole database
yes, I've been hearing and seeing more crows recently; also I believe that's Lake Michigan in the background
the smaller image looks like a raccoon, compare to ACH000dvgw
the sticks are there in ACH000b0m4, but the critter is not... but awww moments ACH000b0lo ACH000b0lw ACH000b0lx ACH000b0ly
looks somewhat skinnier than the one in ACH0004qwz
I was going to say something about Superdog, but that brings to mind Superdawg, whose sole nemesis is ketchup
rabbit!
lighter than hare
we get a lot of these art shots, something to do with the light (dawn/dusk?); human on the left edge, maybe a raccoon left of the tree
black and white says skunk, sometimes the stripes are less distinct than you'd expect...compare to 3rd sample skunk image
too bad we don't have fish category, this one is a pollock (Jackson Pollock, that is)
it's a juvenile robin, they lose their spots as they age...
mercifully, the "vehicle, other" category was eliminated a while back, no more planes, trains, and golf carts
possibly #bipedal #rabbit
raccoons jealous of red pandas
very stylish rabbit
as long as skunks don't climb trees...
I think those are snow flakes, it's like a snow globe with coyote
that's the scent bag, you'll see one in most of the photos, see the discussion "what's that black thing"
I believe that's a rabbit, see ACH000h9rj for profile view
[your caption here]
yes, melanistic grey squirrel, they're actually pretty common in the towns north of the city, but no cameras there
yes, faint stripes visible in the tail
make sure you select something under "how many", we've had two mowers going at this spot
definite opossum, maybe doing a Dracula impression
yep, I think the shape of the tail means red fox
squirrel chase! (need a bigger tree) #actionsquirrel
hmmm counting sheep...
good eyes spotting the fawn...tails up!
guess we haven't seen the building on the left all lit up, but rabbit spotted here in ACH000ff8e, looks like a good guess for this one
hard to tell, maybe rabbit? but check out the spotted hyena in ACH0005ox9
close encounters of the bunny kind
low-down coyote
it's actually an "access denied" message (XML), I've been geting a few of these and lots of "can't find an image to classify" popups
raccoon startled by passing UFO
very strange-looking dog
think you've got it, human entering the scene in ACH000b5gp
I think it's a young raccoon, we've seen them with skinny tails...had to add fill flash in a photo program to see the ringed tail here
suspect it's deer, see ACH0006185
good eyes, think it's two raccoons heading toward the tree, can just make out the masks in my photo program
think this spot is on the lakefront near the zoo, just found lakefront bike path is available in Google Street View....
think the shape says dog, not sure if the blur behind it is its human
awkward deer photo
I suspect this raccoon is eating for four to six, and a few odd cravings are part of the journey
I guess it is fire, check out ACH000g8wb and the other items in my "slow burn" collection
definite oposuum
we don't have a category for giant ape, since they aren't that common outside of Skull Island (and sometimes Manhattan)
yep, I'd guess fox squirrel, but not a very good look at the tail here
if Dr. Sheldon Cooper were here, he'd think this was the best part of the whole project, who doesn't like trains?
well, I'd guess it's another deer, now tell me what's going on in ACH0004f99, kind of scary
yes, the local primates like to adjust the cameras for us
I'd go with kitteh, yes
not sure in this light, I'd guess adults, but you do get a well-lit shot of the trap
finally went with red fox #redfox here, smaller than coyote ACH000i6rd, bigger than squirrel ACH000i6qt, not an opossum
Vote for 'Yote!
hokey smoke, Bullwinkle, I think it's a flying squirrel, in flight
I believe that's a juvenile American Robin (Turdus migratorius), they lose the speckling as they mature
really skinny raccoon
this camera is mounted high, think it might be deer ear, see ACH0006ebz, which also has a white patch at the base of the ear
another possible portal to an alien world (or a tribute to when the Sun Times had an afternoon edition...)
wow, totally misread the color scheme, head looked more high-contrast black and white than the usual sparrow
I need new glasses, but I see it now.
tempted to say Black-Capped Chickadee (Poecile atricapillus), based on the black cap with white underneath, but this bird might be too big
not seeing it...where are you looking?
ACH00067rz has a deer with its head down on the left, vines on left make an "X" near tail, vines on right make an "X" near head
finally went with opossum here...more #bipedal behavior
likely to be fixed source of electrical illumination, same spot appears lit in ACH00067rz (spot the hidden deer in that one!)
looks like just plant material, better lit in ACH000g4tr
art shot of the day
raccoon a good guess, this camera is mounted low, see the charming bandits in ACH0009tiq ACH0009tis ACH0009tit ACH0009tix
it's likely one of the camera straps has been pulled loose by curious primates, see ACH000h338 ACH000h339 and so on
deer selfie, ala ACH0005e2i ACH0008jis
see ACH0009hlx, a relative of our old pal Arthur
yep, overall shape gives it away, probably the same one as in ACH0005rvv
still there unmoving in ACH000j2zr, think it's just a leaf, the "beak" is a stem...
thought squirrel, then maybe bird, then object dangling, see ACH00096sm ACH00096su ACH00096sx
with this much eyeshine, #rabbit is a good bet, I can sort of see a rabbit shape if I add fill flash in a photo program
[you get a dog-walker and the yellow-vests in ACH0005otm]
h'mmm can't really see the eye here, but seems to be livin' the good life, for a squirrel
definitely something there, might be another bunny, compare to ACH00061x3; then check out ACH00061x9; conejo x coyote on the south branch
I'd agree on dog; these IR photos are kind of weird at times
oh you'll find a lot of dogwalkers, one good reason to mark the humans "human"
[technically, these yellow-vested humans should be marked as such, and then concealed from our view with the squashed text "human"]
antler-only deer sighting
head down opossum on the ground and another in the tree; first time I've seen this wall
I'd vote coyote
I thought lagomorph at first, but after some photo magic, I'll go with the Waschbär hypothesis
could be opossum as in ACH00063he, or (large!) raccoon as in ACH00063gc, not sure, but check out ACH00063hm ACH00063hn ACH00063ho
well, the "ear" (just right of the eye) is a tree part, there in other shots (ACH00063h8 and so on)
just restin' -- or maybe snackin' -- if you look closely, ears are up and a bright look to the eye
alas ACH000ibvt ACH000ibwh ACH000ibwm convince me it's a motor-car passing by; this camera seems stuck snapping shots of mostly nothing
#bipedal #opossum -- with walking stick
I see that DZM has collected it, so it's now an official member of Action Squirrels!
2 deer! (thought at first the one on the left was a coyote, but no)
dog fashion
coyote of the day
fox of the day
seeing both eyes points to raccoon (plus, that would be one ginormous city-size rat...)
this is what we call #actionsquirrel
looks like a rabbit, head pointed away, right where rolling coyote was in ACH00061xe or check out ACH00061xf
fox should look red in this light, think maybe juvenile coyote here
think so, compare to ACH00061tu
nothing moving in ACH000f1si and previous images, although the scent bag moves a bit between ACH000f1sg and ACH000f1sh
I'm tempted to go with Common Grackle (Quiscalus quiscula) based on the tail, with the rosy light of dawn washing out its normal coloring
it's either that or the spawn of Ungoliant (see previous discussion of ACH000f51y from a couple of nights back)
see ACH0009ccp for a daytime view, the tree is in poor shape, missing bark at the base
and lots and lots of keys (keys mean power; power means -- more keys)
that's a juvenile robin (Turdus migratorius); they lose their spots as they grow up
adding a little flavor to the scent bag, I'm guessing
possibly related to the scent bag incident in ACH0004mqo, guess they're the Altoids of the coyote world
looks like, compare to the deer (?) in ACH000688v
tail held up says dog, see ACH000a6qn for a similar dog at same spot (different time, camera has moved a bit)
almost thought rabbit, but you can faintly see long legs, think it's a coyote nosing under the log
I hope those are not eyes...
not seeing a critter move in ACH0004ryf - ACH0004ryh, are we looking at the downed bird feeder? (pole at right angles to scent bag tree)
#rabbit giving us the skunk eye
probably too big for rabbit, maybe tail end of fox seen here (at different time, no snow) in ACH000gvee
not r-a-t, r-a-b-b-i-t
I'm tempted to go with House Sparrow, Passer domesticus, based on the shape of beak, etc., but not sure about the size
interesting effect -- you can see the mesh of the fence through the bird's head...same bird (?), different angle in ACH000a7j3, ACH000a7j6
it's there, not moving, in ACH000gc6s and so on, I'm guessing leaf or maybe fungus
eye of the rabbit? (extreme right edge)
daytime raccoon, this spot is raccoon grand central
long ears for a rat, I'm going with (drum roll) rabbit
h'mm rabbits seem to be multiplying, guessing you are right
good eyes -- rabbit for sure in ACH0004a0t, looks like this could be the same critter...holding very still...
looks like a chilly rabbit (rotate 35 degrees left, zoom 300%)
some call it Der Waschbär, or a wash-bear, but we call a raccoon...you can kind of see the black mask
I'll go out on a limb and guess it's another squirrel, but hard to be sure...Not A Leaf anyway
2x deer, one's checking out the scent bag
a new bird record
tree leash, don't want your trees wandering off, but this one has a broken strap
sure looks like a bunny, but is not moving in ACH000g56d to ACH000g56l (except for ACH000g56h, a night shot), so I'm thinking Not A Bunny
the flash is infrared, probably 99% invisible
my "critter" is not moving in ACH000g56d and following, so likely a broken branch with bark instead of fur
I see "critter" above the fallen branch, eye lines up just left of the scent bag...now can't decide whether it's real or illusion
looks like a pile of either wood chips or "mulch" (ground up leaves, bark, and branches)...often used to keep weeds at bay
yes, pretty sure...light is not quite right to bring out iridescence
found it, but I think it may be a member of the squirrel family
I think that's just a leaf with an "eye" spot chewed out...see leaf and pup again on ACH000b1gt
it does indeed appear to be some form of baked goods, perhaps a doughnut or a bagel, or maybe a hamburger bun...
looks kind of like the raccoons (?) in ACH000hg8n and ACH000hg8c (different times, based on tracks), and not the rabbit in ACH000hg8p
I'd go with coyote; the cup is here, but the bottle and the piece of styrofoam are missing (see ACH000fmzy and ACH000fmzx)
yes, compare to ACH0006eal
I think we've got a rat, see ACH000fao5 -- squirrels and chipmunks don't work at night
think taller, and head down, take a look at ACH000681m and ACH000681t
there a lot just like this one, for example ACH0008rza and ACH0008rzb -- I don't see anything moving
the trick is, the ground slopes away just past the tree, so the creature may be taller than it looks
that might be a coffee cup, maybe some critter is in a 12-step program...
another empty bottle as well...might explain why the tail is so ragged...adding fill flash shows a regular gray squirrel (with hangover)
not sure about the one near the tree, but the one on the left does look like a robin; the thing on the right is of course the penguin decoy
might be the rabbit seen in ACH00066z1, probably not the mongo opossum from ACH00066yw and ACH00066yy
I'd say definite #bunny here, very faint but probably #bunny in the previous one, ACH000im1e, as well
well, there's a squirrel just left of the tree, so I'm guessing squirrel prints...rabbits can leave similar prints, but they avoid trees...
yes, Quiscalus quiscula
hard to tell -- camera seems stuck -- hundreds (?) of shots just like this one one either side
I think the "penguin" is the broken end of one of three straps that held up the tree. Why the tree needed three straps is another question.
definite raccoon, you can kind of see the dark mask
snow bunny
looks like an opossum
rabbit on the left, bright eye shine and overall shape are the clue, looks like another rabbit over near the fence too
rabbit front feet strike first, close together, then hind feet strike ahead of front feet, farther apart...may be from rabbit hopping away
still a deer showing off its long flexible neck
rabbits can leave tracks sort of like this, not sure...see also ACH000hine, same tracks, which shows why we don't count tracks
actually three dogs, two face left, third behind the middle dog faces right...dark tail tip on middle dog looks a bit coyote-like...
I'll say that only the animal counts, since the prints may stick around for weeks, which would tend to skew the statistics...
I'm gonna go with gray squirrel again
that's a Canada goose, Branta canadensis
coyote looks confused about exactly what made these giant "tracks" in the show
I'd go with #rabbit, think you can make out the long ears
pretty sure those are electric lights, believe there's a long single story building in the background at this spot
I believe we're looking at the tail and a bit of the back of gray squirrel
maybe one bird on a branch center left compared to ACH000dubx; but sadly the Carolina Parakeet is pinin' for the fjords, it has ceased to be
the black thing on the log is the scent bag that lures the animals
squirrels work the day shift only, this is a rabbit, as seen in ACH000fb2r
it's a form of revenge against scientists for all the ear tags and tracking collars
h'mm snowshoes can be over a meter, but they don't leave giant toe prints...I think a coyote was making a snow angel here
these appear to be mostly water or pop bottles (BPA-free?), not the Pabst Blue Ribbon long necks favored by local coyotes
Also, I think this is the coyote that Mason said was captured on the grounds of Lincoln Park Zoo.
Pretty sure they're just electric lights.
We've seen this coyote before. It's just off Division St here, near Cabrini-Green site.
agree with lps that this is a coyote
think that's just a street light in the distance
looks like it got correctly tagged as human, looks a kid (?) running, sole of right foot up toward the camera
well, you do find a lot of empty bottles out in the woods...
yep, see ACH000flhp ACH000flhq ACH000flhs (back turned?) ACH000flht ACH000flhv ACH000flhw ACH000flhx ACH000fli3 ACH000fli9 (not camera-shy)
I'd go with dog (head down) on right; nobody has yet figured out what the thing in the tree is
not seeing anything but a couple of discarded plastic bottles
might be an opossum, see ACH0004r2s
good eyes as usual!
just a fallen tree, you'd need a big bag to pick up this log
h'mm this photo is just irresistible, but zero foxes of any coloration, just rubbish and crudely trimmed vegetation
I see a little face just to the right of where the sticks cross, but it doesn't move in ACH000g55n and ACH000g55o, so probably plant litter
h'mm I think that's the left hind paw, faintly striped tail pointing straight at the lens, compare to ACH000bdho
I found the reference I was thinking of, see the "Coydogs, etc." posting on the "Chat" board...
there was talk about "coydogs" here back in the 1960s, coyote-dog hybrids, not sure they exist, but I guess anything is possible
been a bit damp here in northeastern Illinois
melanistic (?) opossum seen in ACH0005wxn (also check out deer in ACH0005wxr)
check out http://i.imgur.com/RGnlXs1.jpg from the recent AMA session on reddit -- see "/S/cience AMA on reddit 7/6" featured discussion
I think maybe young raccoon, if you zoom way in and squint, you can make out the ears and and maybe the nose
I'm seeing a few blue jays and crows again, but it's been a while since we've had 50+ crows cawing their heads off in a tree
that's a Blue Jay, Cyanocitta cristata -- they've been hit hard by West Nile virus, like other members of crow family
another luminous mystery
for some reason the cameras in city parks tend to end up this way...possibly due to human intervention
my "safety cone" theory is that skunks put the tail up when the head goes down just a fair warning...
seems like it's the base of one of the straps holding up the tree, see ACH0004xo7 for a daytime view
h'mmm that monkey has the head of a setter, which maybe brings the discussion full circle
don't know, the way it's eying the scent bag, I think it's a really hungry coyote, if you know what I mean
this is one where zooming out (making the image smaller) helps, it's an opossum, possumbly the one commented on in ACH000d66n
possibly home to bed, raccoons like a nice hollow in an old tree
that is a strange posture for the second raccoon
not sure, but something is hanging in front of the lens in ACH000dmgp and other nearby shots
yes, head is a little blurry, but overall shape says raccoon
this one is more into weeds than booze
probably young deer, this is the deer nursery spot seen in ACH000dp9t and ACH000dp9m
http://www.artic.edu/aic/collections/artwork/27992
quick, call Georges Seurat! (or Bernadette Peters)
don't worry about the missed opportunity, we have plenty more dog walkers where this one came from...
think this is the hind end of a deer like the one seen in ACH000i86p, not the determined-looking raccoon seen in ACH000i86q
just lens flare...or swamp gas...
looking at ACH00089wj and ACH00089wk, nothing seems to be moving...check out "how to zoom" under "featured discussions"
the dark object on the log is the scent bag that's used to attract the animals -- most images will have something similar
looks like a Common Grackle, shape of the tail is the clue here
rabbit still avoiding Mr. MacGregor's trap
"We better stop Children, what's that sound? Everybody look - what's going down?"
"Don't look back. Something might be gaining on you."
!
went with dog here, not sure
good eyes, but the ones in the tree are still there in ACH000b0op ACH000b0ol, critter on the left edge looks canid with fill flash
juvenile American robin (Turdus migratorius)
finally went with raccoon, not sure
we suspect it stole the scent bag, it's there on the small tree in ACH000cz6i and gone in this shot
dramatic deer at dusk (or dawn)
too much tail, I think coyote like the one in ACH000dpou
kind of looks like the raccoon in ACH000dprv
I think raccoon selfie session, see also ACH000czlb ACH000czko ACH000czkr ACH000czkw ACH000czkz ACH000czl1 ACH000czl4 ACH000czl5 ACH000czl6
I think that's a young coyote
looks like three raccoons here, plus some shiny junk
yes, no one is sure what the thing in the tree is, but we've seen it all seasons, day and night...
hard to be sure, but likely a human adjusting the camera...or else a deer that's ready for its closeup
open case! think the tail is wrong for muskrat, but the fur is too dark for opossum, so rat? see ACH0006e3t ACH0006e41
it has dark ears, so not a true albino, maybe just a young one, think they get more gray with age
mysterious waveform in the sky at the site of the ghost seen in ACH000dmyc
#raccoon encounter, regular and #albino #leucistic nose-to-nose
another coyote caught hitting the bottle
this camera is mounted kind of low, see ACH0009txh and ACH0009txc for my guess as to who owns those ears
looks catlike zoomed out, looks weird zoomed in -- dozens of "nothing here" images around here, one image of this mystery guest
another duplicate image, see ACH000cz6l
definite antlers
looks like the same one in profile in ACH000do6d
#opossum, see ACH00077v7 for comparison
went with coyote here, but ACH0005y73 shows it's a resting deer
who ya callin' Bambi?
There are more things on the northwest side, Horatio, Than are dreamt of in your philosophy.
not sure, night shot makes me think beaver, woodchucks seem to like sunlight
maybe a clue in ACH000b2yo? or ACH000b2yp if you prefer...busy spot in any case
cattitude
hard-to-spot coyote under the tilted tree (incorrectly thought there was another one on the right)
all scientific knowledge is approximate, some approximations are better than others; too bad we don't have a "bison" option
ok, there is such a thing as a head-up #opossum
you could do the Chicago Chipmunk Watch at my house
fawn and mysterious moving bright spot ACH000btc6 ACH000btc5
see rabbit head down in ACH000h9rh, hanging around a lot in ACH000h9q6 to ACH000h9rj
looks a little like a #woodchuck - maybe @lleher can take a look?
both are deer, light and shadow give the one in the background an unusual appearance
rabbit-infested spot: ACH000fv6m ACH000fv6k ACH000fv6l
not sure, but compare to raccoon at same spot in ACH000ddk1
...see ACH0006kci
if you seeing the thing near the left edge, it's a tree root or something that never moves, but Fooled The Experts for a while...
looks like a coyote with a drinking problem...blame the roadrunner
nice raccoon family here, you can see the dark mask on the one on the right
bright spot is there in ACH000cre1 and many others, think it's just a really bright streetlight
you can see the head facing away from the camera now that I look at it again
possibly just some trash, check out ACH00062ok, which includes an actual animal for comparison...trash bag moves around in adjacent shots
another stuck camera, ACH000fvc0 through ACH000fvcz seems to be the same spot, "nothing here" in the ones I checked
super-blurry canid left of the foreground tree, maybe a young coyote, but off-leash dog a strong possibility here
I think it's just brush left over after cutting...Common Buckthorn Rhamnus cathartica is big problem here, think those green leaves are it
I'd normally guess opossum for this kind of gray blur, but might be a coyote tail here based on size -- see ACH000b69l for comparison
I guess the goslings grew up
goslings at the normally empty spot out where the sidewalk ends
this one clearly shows my imaginary coyote is a leafy plant
imagined coyote to the right of the vertical tree, but it's motionless in night shots, gone in ACH0007k16 daytime shot...guess it's weeds?
think this one is the Rock Pigeon, Columba livia, away from its normal habitat under the "L" tracks in the Loop
Canada goose, near where the Chicago River becomes the Chicago Ship and Sanitary Canal
raccoon here in ACH000e3vm, think this the coyote seen in ACH000e3vp
definite coyote, think the scent bag has inspired a roll for whatever reason canids roll in smelly things
yes, a robin
mangy daytime #coyote
think the tree had three straps, suspect the thing on the right is the broken end of one strap
the early #grackle gets the worm (or whatever...not a picky eater)
that's an opossum, and that's actually its tail, not really suited for Chicago winters; also we seem to see woodchuck in the daytime
kitteh for sure, but the mice are just discarded beer cans, see them with Cujo in ACH000dc2z
looks a lot like a Mourning Dove, Zenaida macroura, pretty close to a pigeon, but the ones I see are usually more gray
almost certainly coyote, but it's artfully concealing its tail...
I'd go with raccoon, lighter-colored furry blobs generally opossum
not moving in ACH000fwf1 and following images, think it's tree debris
tough case for sure, face looks a little bull terrier, normally I'd guess coyote at night
not sure what we have to the right of the tree...rabbit? raccoon? opossum?
yes, ringed tail visible if you zoom way in -- think the skinny tail means young raccoon or maybe just summer coat
the amount of eyeshine relative to the body size makes me think rabbit, also the eye is shining to the side versus straight ahead
think it's an American Crow Corvus brachyrhynchos -- they've been in decline here recently due to West Nile virus
I suspect it's the opossum seen in ACH000if3h and ACH000if3b
I'm afraid it doesn't move in ACH000aw2h and many following images of the same spot...another stuck camera
as WillowSkye has noted on Help/The Objects, there are actually two deer here...
you can use the "Create a New Post" buttons on the right of the object talk page to start new discussion, the image is then included
guessing one or more raccoons like the one in ACH000bdg2
think it's a young coyote, dark tip on the tail, versus dark strip down the back and tail (of course we've never actually seen a gray fox)
I'd guess opossum based on the tail and the fur, they look kind of blurry when standing still
I think it's just galls (tumors) on the tree, no change in the "next" image, ACH000aigm
sure looks like a 4-legged critter there, and not there in ACH000d5cd, had to look at your circled image to see it
looks more like a coyote in ACH000cz48
keep in mind that these are not real-time images, many are more than a year old, so the camera here was probably moved long ago...
this camera too does seem broken, lots of all-white images, interspersed with ones like ACH000cpmt (backpack in the grass?)
this camera produced lots of shots just like this one, so it probably is broken
I think shots like this may happen when the lighting changes, camera seems fine in ACH00032ul and other near this one
very faint, but looks like a rabbit behind the glowing eye
see ACH000dw87 for another possibility
great inverted raccoon, but the wee bird is just the latest shiny junk decoy
it doesn't move in ACH000eysh ACH000eysi and so on, so I'm guessing stick\
I think opossum, see ACH000fnuh for a comparison
#raccoon for sure, tail often looks that when they're moving
looks like a young opossum headed right, skinny tail, dark ears
just junk on the left, we saw something like this in another spot, think the "eyes" are reflections of the infrared LEDs on the camera
definitely not seeing opossum tail, but not seeing rabbit ears either, tough case
see ACH000f9fb and ACH000f9fe for some confirmation of the deer hypothesis, also daytime coyote sightings are rare
I believe that's one of the volunteers setting up the camera...
using photo program, turned the brightness down and the contrast up, seeing two short dark ears, so I'd guess opossum versus rabbit
wow, good eyes, I see the paw and bit more, raccoon climbing on the right tree
that has just got to cause social embarrassment
coyote pup
nice squirrel there in the center foreground, some cameras give this art effect at times, but this one works fine most of the time
see also ACH000bs5x and ACH000bs5z, I'm guessing young coyote
maybe 2x bird, can't see head on one in front...could be woodpeckers, not sure what they're doing on the ground...
another shot in ACH0005180 then close-up in ACH000518c, that's a major collar, looks like this coyote's turned stool pigeon
yep, long bare possum tail, dark ears
I think raccoon is more likely than cat here
yep, possum tail
think it might be a juvenile American robin, a kind of thrush
same image at ACH0005dbs
same image at ACH000556e
exact same image at ACH00054sm
exact same image at ACH0005cy4
tough, juvenile robin a possibility based on coloration, might be another thrush/thrasher or even a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker
something in the fungus family, somewhat more visible in ACH000bfnt (don't get much daylight at this spot)
Common grackle Quiscalus quiscula (much prettier Latin than Turdus migratorius)
domestic dog, you can kind of see the collar
contemplatin'
relaxin'
three species
see "how to zoom, neutral background" under "Featured discussions"
maybe the raccoon seen leaving in ACH0009tbv?
welcome to CWW, all the stuff behind the fence is just trash, plus a scent lure on the fence near the center...we get quite a few like this
as escholizia said, in ACH000do3c ("next" picture) you can see a squirrel, so likely that's what we have here
curved tail and bright sunlight says dog, maybe radioactive ghost dog...
I think this one is along Lake Michigan, sand one clue, and you could see water when the camera was tilted up for a while
looking back
woodpecker for sure, white bar on the back says a Downy Picoides pubescens or a Hairy Picoides villosus, probably a Downy, small beak
the redstart is Old World, this a 100% American robin, Turdus migratorius
you'll want to step carefully if you march through there
not sure what kind of bird or quite which way it's going, but probably safe to make it "head up"
See "Small change to tagging vehicles" under "Featured discussions".
deer, coyote, what the difference? they kind of look alike sometimes...
might be a coyote, see ACH0005cvw for size comparison
No more car, no more "vehicle, other", and no more bike! Still have "mower", I'm happy with that.
just another junk decoy, see ACH000ghy2 for a live dog not bothering the "eyes" behind the fence
not as cool as if we called them "sable squirrels" (they're actually a dime a dozen near me)
welcome to AnnePackrat, ndw753, meganlee007, Leuchtgelb, GilEstel212, ugeiser, kegan1027, Briren16, and all the other new posters recently!
I think it's a deer based on the long, kind of saggy neck, see daytime deer ACH00053yr and nighttime blurry deer ACH00053ys at same spot
well, someone's tagged it human, might be a person's head, might be a passing deer...this location seems be mainly daytime shots of nothing
#opossum, you can see the pointed snout, one dark ear and a dark leg or legs...looks like maybe it's grooming...
think it's a deer, head down toward the tree -- see ACH000dvi1 for a deer pointing the other way, same spot
Yes, you may! Thanks for the clues, I was pretty sure it would be SA, but wasn't sure if "A" was Africa or Australia.
see ACH000fehd for a nighttime view, with coyote
the thing in the tree is a nest or something, seems to made of leaves and maybe plastic bags, it's actually hanging from the branch
rabbits are the eyeshine champs, but whatever this is, is off the charts
may be a #foxsquirrel (or two?) on a log, see ACH0005jpg for a comparison, really looks like two squirrels nose-to-nose, but not sure
I believe that's a rabbit, fluffy white tail toward us, head to the left, so only one eye shining
Weather Underground puts Adelaide, Oz at 18 C / 65 F, so not really freezing...but Adelaide, South Africa only 8850 miles to ORD
earlier mention of kangaroos, and of 9941,9 miles, and Google says Adelaide, Oz is 9905 miles distant...is this a clue?
looks like a skunk, good eyes!
took me a long while to even see the bird, but likely an American robin, Turdus migratorius, perhaps molting
@llehrer, please confirm Marmota monax making exit, stage left
aww
stealth #rabbit
headlights, road back there, see ACH000fnx9 -- too bright for eyeshine if you can't see the critter, may look rectangular when zoomed
see ACH0004q1k for my reasoning on the 2-raccoon hypothesis (plus, it's adorable)
mini coyote
could be a Great Horned owl or a young raccoon on the right, cool picture regardless
cool 2 #deer
eyes or headlights? they look rectangular when zoomed, so I'm thinking headlights, other images from here seem to confirm this
I think it's a Common grackle, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_grackle
it did look like a worried deer, but closer inspection shows 2nd coyote, see http://tinypic.com/r/24nfspg/8 for a "fill flash" version
rabbit in its rabbitat
I believe it's grooming time, yes
looks like raccoons left and right
hmmm, voted deer too, but I think maybe smoke or fog...
liked the antlers here (or are they soft corals?)
see ACH000dt24 for daytime view, mystery object is shredded chips bag or similar
still one weird-looking item plus Felis catus
I'm guessing multi-squirrel kerfluffle, definite furry action right and left of central tree, see also mangy coyote ACH0004r8u
I'm guessing Felis catus, as long as we're on Latin kick
it's just volunteers setting up the camera...and around here, it's "The Outfit"...
my guess is the spots mimic dappled sunlight under trees...older deer spend more time out in the open and lose the camouflage
the tail goes up when the head goes down? kind of like the orange cone behind the cable truck
maybe a red winged blackbird, not sure what it's perched on -- (Agelaius phoeniceus)
#dailyzoo
even the experts from lpzoo have been fooled from time to time, and it does seem to have a really long tail for a bunny
google squirrel resting, lots of squirrels looking like they're pinin' for the fjords...but there's resting and "just resting", not sure
opossum, dark ears on the left, dark legs too, lighter body
think it's opossum based on the coat color
that's a rabbit, check out "How to Zoom" under featured discussions on the the recent page
I think it's an opossum, headed left in a hurry
actually 2 raccoons, head down, you can see the ringed tails if you zoom in
good eyes spotting it, but light tail fringe and very short legs say gray squirrel
definite rabbit, they often keep late hours
think it's an #actionrabbit, see squirrel in ACH000b580 for size
maybe just malingering, alive and well in ACH000brdd ACH000brdf ACH000brdg ACH000brdh
as jaxbaq said, probably coyote, you can see the long tail if you zoom way in
with some fill flash, looks like the one on the left is scooting under a fallen log...I can just make out the nose...
h'mm, went through 3 "rolls" of this, all have the same bright background...maybe all shot one sunny afternoon?
sure looks like a tailless squirrel
no one's 100% sure, but lots of animal rear ends...there's a discussion about this on the science board..."Can the animals see the light..."
tempted to call this a coydog, the rare canid hybrid -- kind of adorable, whatever it is
might be woodchuck, based on color, no idea which end
another one for the lpzoo team
yes, clicking too fast can 2x or 3x your last id...annoying
maybe a young raccoon (?)
#opossum with head really down (plus shiny debris)
skunk gives scent bag the skunk eye
dunno who marked it human, but see ACH000540a and ACH000540d for id
nothing we can do about it now...
dark legs, lighter body says #opossum on the right, see two at same spot in ACH000e6ho
dark tip on the tail says coyote, one on left with head down, one laying down in front of it with head up
good eyes spotting it, not sure if fox or coyote, see the coyote passing this spot in ACH000ffar for comparison
very tough, dark tails may say red fox, but I'm not seeing dark stockings, except maybe on the front legs of the one on the left
short tail, white underneath, says deer
even a #woodchuck would like a scent bag
count this one as "vehicle, other"
#deer working on antlers
aside from the scent bag, it's all just trash, blows around a little when a train goes by
tough one, the straight tail with a dark tip may indicate a mangy coyote, also domestic dogs tend to taper toward the hind legs
wow, standing at attention yet! another woodchuck #dailyzoo
where'd everybody go?
mower or terminator?
might be a different animal based on size, see ACH0009te7
I think it's just a lump, see daytime ACH0008bl8, it doesn't move in ACH0008bl5 ACH0008bl6 etc.
the thing just left of center is a nest or something hanging from a branch, seems to be leaves and maybe plastic bags
everyone loves a good scent bag
check out ACH000ds3q -- might be the tail of the coyote pup seen there -- scale a little deceiving here
the black thing with "eyes" is just a piece of shiny junk, fooled me at first, think it would run when it saw the raccoon if it had legs
ok, called this one #coyote, but head and tail strategically obscured
the long skinny legs and widely spaced eyes make me think this is a fawn; there's something covering the lens on this camera
the skunk in ACH00055bc gives you a size comparison
I believe that's a fallen branch in front of the tree; the black thing is the lure or scent bag
that's too bad, great segment, but "raccoon climbing" on youtube at least gives the idea
skunk demoing head down, tail up posture
I think this counts as "head down", similar to feeding
I think it may be a resting deer, see ACH0004fdg for size comparison
I think it's someone's head -- this camera is pointed more horizontally than most
there's a "bike" category for bicycles
dark tip to the tail says coyote
ghostly tilted thing seems to say "ARRRRRH"
think I can see the long ears, yes
yep, you have one melanistic, one actionsquirrel and DZM has a collection "Action Squirrels!"
grays tend to have a white fringe to the tail, this one looks more red, that plus size makes me guess fox squirrel
raccoons love to climb -- check out http://www.pbs.org/wnet/nature/raccoon-nation-video-first-night-out/7539/
1 deer resting, head turned toward tummy -- see ACH0005isx ACH0005it1 and many following images
tough...could be the skunk from ACH000559i or raccoon or opossum...
tough one, relatively straight tail carried low may say coyote
check out "how to zoom" under "featured discussions"
yep, looks like a coyote
sorry, dark ears, light fur, bare tail say opossum -- I got burned by a "mink" which turned out to be a cat...
I think so, multiple raccoons tend to be the kids and mom (no mom here, though)
looks like skunk, head to the right, tail in blurry motion
good eyes!
dog, think I see a collar at left edge, maybe Portuguese Water Dog or similar
just got this too, went with dog
deer, foot up
not sure if it's an effort to keep people interested, like the "Bushnell" images, or to calibrate identifications against a known subject.
looks a lot like 2nd sample woodchuck
rabbit in a hurry
skunk impersonating a log
tough one, I'd go raccoon based on the mask and size...compare to possum in ACH000b28f
a squirrel, probably not a happy squirrel...
I'd say opossum, too, or else a really big ball of dryer lint
I thought it was a deer's ear, sometimes they are looking right at the camera...
there goes another scent bag
think it's one big dog, one medium dog, and one human leg and somewhat reflective shoe at the right edge
5 x raccoons
another low-profile deer
yep...it's there in ACH000cz6i, then gone...
good eyes, American robin on lower left
yes, american robin
possum-ble, see ACH000fn95 and also for fun ACH000fn9g ACH000fn9h ACH000fn9j (busy location) plus ACH000fn8z
2 phantom deer
almost went with #muskrat here, but settled for #opossum
I'm tempted to say raccoon, hint of a dark mask around the eye
I just got this one too
deer keeping a very low profile
phenylacetic acid, according to the LP zoo folks -- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phenylacetic_acid
well-concealed skunk...
new touch...they attached the scent bag to the leaning tool...
let's call it a Downy, sounds nicer than "Hairy": http://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Downy_Woodpecker/id
just timber...see ACH0007lz0 for a daylight version...this is another "stuck" camera, snapping away at nothing
probably a woodpecker, can't tell if it's Downy, Hairy or what...lots about with all the dead ash trees, etc.
young coyote, I think, apparently gray has a bold dark stripe that continues from the back to the tail, see science discussion "gray fox"
little less bigfoot-y in ACH000enyu & wearing a dog collar...
looks a lot like the albino raccoon from ACH0009tpe
think it's a deer as seen in ACH000bqx4
hmmm big cat, see raccoon in ACH000bqx8 for size comparison
looks like it's dragging a leash, so I guess dog
daytime view of the thing to the right of the tree...broken tree strap?
rabbit-rabbit interaction? we don't have the right behavior option if I'm right...
scrawny coyote (?)
maybe raccoon based on the size, but just guessing
good example of Vehicle, Other
think it's the scent bag, see ACH00054nv
#raccoon, see it ducking under the log in ACH000avgu
fallen tree decoy only
tough one, dark ears and feet may indicate #redfox, looks like a juvenile to me
#junk, you see it in daylight sometimes, just a piece of plastic
#inverted #rabbit #headdown #extremely #155degrees
daytime coyote
fox?
I like the detail on the fuzzy antlers
Miwaukee Road north line train pulls into station bearing same name as the park hosting the camera
kind of badgery looking, but big raccoon in ACH00053qj at a different hour
I'd vote raccoon, red fox has longer, dark ears
raccoon it is, tails can be thin like this (summer coat? young raccoon?)
front page http://daily.zooniverse.org/2015/05/03/snapshot-sunday-how-much-wood-could-a-woodchuck-chuck/
I'd vote rat
ummm scent bag!
resting deer before settling down, also ACH0005ivd ACH0005ive ACH0005ivf ACH0005ivg
that's our resting deer doing some grooming
step 1: identify which end of the animal you are looking at
the one hind paw clearly has five separate toes, #raccoon a good bet
young ones anyway, I think they stick with mom for quite a while
agree it's likely a coyote heading away, this is one where a smaller image is better
I think we're looking at gray squirrel tail left of the trunk
I'd say #housecat (you gotta tell us your guess...)
maybe ACH000ddxa provides a clue
long ears, short tail, powerful hind paws, #rabbit!
#rabbit, if you zoom way in you can see the ears
squirrel, probably fox, edges of tail look red versus white fringe in gray (not the expert squirrel-sorter, however)
scent bag provides enrichment for young raccoons
young opossum, see it in profile in ACH000d68b
maybe skinny young raccoon?
"Vehicle,Other"
I think that's all part of a fallen tree, broken in two pieces
yep, #raccoon
I believe that's a Great Egret
ok, name this mystery canid...I voted #redfox
I just liked the disks lower left of the scent bag tree, unusual lens flare, I think of lens flare as fish-shaped
dark tipped tail says coyote, maybe young coyote?
definite rabbit here, reared up on hind legs, probably washing face
or rabbit?
went with #foxsquirrel here, great shot of the tail pattern and beefy (?) limbs
cat is pretending to be a mink, won't get fooled again
odd glowing disks to the left of the tree
I guess a gray squirrel would have a white belly, so this one is probably fox
not sure, tail pattern seemed more like gray squirrel, color is off the charts
see ACH000czm2 for raccoon versus shiny junk lower left
wow, 50 shades of gray squirrel?
it may be hanging branch: it moves: ACH000h33k ACH000h33m ACH000h33n ACH000h33o ACH000h33p ACH000h33q ACH000h33r ACH000h33s ACH000h33u
yep, #rabbit!
#squirrel, tail says probably gray despite the red cast to the fur
zoomed in, maybe a blurred tail for the one on the left, legs to long for opossum, so raccoon
there's a weed cutter leaning on the fence, the small black object on the fence is the scent bag that attracts the animals
teamwork
spotted a fawn
very young fawn (?) I guess the nose grows after the ears
2 #raccoon, but had to add a ton of fill flash in my photo program to be sure
I think someone clicked the wrong button, unfortunately no way to undo. Looks like raccoon.
the white spot is the tail, right below are the hind paws working together (hopping gait), and if you zoom in, long ears...#rabbit
mostly likely #opossum with its head down to the left, light color fur is the main clue
example of white as camouflage
dark legs say #redfox, complicated tail coloring too, see third sample image for the tail
dark tip to the tail says #coyote for sure
looks like a #rabbit to me
#raccoon, just a hint of the ringed tail
#rabbit, long ears, big eyes
could also be a deer, head down, not sure if that's a head or a tail on the right
Heisenberg at work ACH000dpwp ACH000dpwq
deer flexibility demo
I think deer are pretty flexible, somebody's got to groom those hindquarters
good eyes -- probable housecat here, but http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2008-04-15/news/0804140895_1_cougar-illinois-north-side
looks like a young opossum, a proud marsupial
raccoon with head down, had to tilt screen to see it
not seeing anything here
looks like a raccoon
deer rendevous
daytime rabbit
tailstand
I'm guessing scary big raccoon
raccoon, hint of the dark mask
maybe mangy coyote, tail mostly bare but seems to have dark tip still
maybe 2 young raccoons, squirrels work the day shift
deer with plenty to eat
maybe a light fringe to tail, so gray squirrel, but hard to be sure
#rabbit washing its face? (or having a smoke?) #whatsis
"cast a long shadow" (decided not to tag this as human...)
leafy trees hint this picture is not too recent...folks like to adjust the cameras for fun
probably raccoon, hind legs look right, tail is sometimes skinny like this one's
dark ears say opossum, while rat is kind of rat-colored all over
I believe it may be a #woodchuck, uptick in recent woodchuck spottings
dark tip on the tail means coyote
coyote pups check out the scent bag
cat with raccoon tail -- stripes continue on hind legs
light gray squirrel
it may be plastic bag, see ACH000814v
the thing near the top left is a rock or a tree (doesn't move) but it did fool the professionals until escholzia busted it
fox squirrel, punk attitude
Lots more birds where that one came from, unfortunately no back.
think I can make out the long ears...
I'm stumped, went with #mink
not sure what we're looking at here...seems to be translucent, you can see patterns of light and shadow through it
went with #dog here
new wrinkle, sideways camera, closeup of a kitty headed away, I think...
they do like to roll, think you've got it
another thin-tailed squirrel
don't see many very small bears in these parts
tail is kind of straight, which indicates coyote - dog tails are more curved
the tail looks white on the underside, one indication that this is a deer
not moving in ACH00096ba etc. so likely a log or something
I'd go with "vehicle, other" for a bike trailer even with a bike present -- been using it for strollers, little red wagons, etc.
the black thing is just a plastic bottle, seems plastic can really reflect infrared
we see this one in daylight, tangle of plastic bags etc., may be a nest or just junk
I would guess raccoon, head down behind the fallen tree, but just a guess
wow super eyes! there's a domestic dog (curved tail) with its head down behind the tree, had to add fill flash effect and tilt screen to see
I'd go with coyote here, maybe a young one
think I may be seeing a pair of long ears behind the light streak
heh CPD out of bounds, figured out this camera is in a "Grove" suburb (plenty of those to choose from...)
agree on the squirrel, think the young have skinny tails or maybe an older squirrel with mange (looks well-fed anyway)
think that's just an #actionsquirrel (gray squirrel showing off its superpowers)
yes no doubt this time unlike the mystery chicken thing a few days ago
think there are two, nice bipedal posture on the one
yes several cemeteries in the current images
zoom in with ctrl-+ (hold ctrl, hit + repeatedly) in most browsers, face and ears become visible
I think that's the scent bag, kind of shredded, on the big tree in the center
check the sample images under "livestock"
yes #opossum
see ACH0004xbm for a daytime view, water behind the tree, could well be reflected moon plus ripples, good call escholzia
mink (!) messing with scent bag, see ACH000fmya ACH000fmyn also ACH000fmyb and many others with no scent bag and new junk (camera stuck?)
woodchuck is not much in the tail department, likely dog here
possum versus cat (?)
heads up!
young raccoon (?)
juvenile coyote
$1
another example of the strange glow on the middle tree, right in the center of the image
believe that's the tail of a wood kitty aka #skunk
looks like a raccoon with its head down, nose is toward the tree
photo magic seems to show dark ears, probably not a coyote, too big for a fox, so probably dog, but we do see coyote here
even Arthur Sr. had a squirrel once in a while and maybe a coyote once
lawn tiger
slight drainage problem
agree it's a skunk, pointing away, checking out the shiny thing with the "eyes" we've seen before...think the mattress or cushion is new
I believe jpmapd is on the right track...scooped me by one minute
heh it has mastered the art of total immobility ACH0004ryl ACH0004rym ACH0004rym ACH0004ryp und so weiter
arthur jr versus skunk
too much phenylacetic acid
#raccoon art shot
likely a coyote having a roll, head very blurry...deer tend to keep very still
I think the curved tail indicates dog
think so
spot light from a passing barge?
it does say "police line do not cross", but widely ignored ACH000crrn and then defeated ACH000crrp
yep, think so, had a nice rabbit hopping by the first time I saw it
could almost be a tail there, but I think it's just dead wood
just seeing the scent bag attached to the top of a stump
not seeing a rabbit here
with lots of fill flash, I see what may be a pine cone on the upper left, but no chipmunk...chipmunks work the day shift anyway
looks like a possum
I'd go with woodchuck too
it's an odd piece of junk, you sometimes get a daytime shot of it
heh mineral or vegetable (root) but not animal ACH0006kcj ACH0006kck ACH0006kcl ACH0006kcm ACH0006kcn ACH0006kco (ooh, a duck!) ACH0006kcp
scent bag almost in the middle, the rest is just junk that blows around a bit
good eyes again...other images like ACH000b42w show fixed objects left of tree...likely rabbit on the right, but photo magic can't confirm
not sure what the bright spots are...may be a bio phenom, probably not a furry animal
good eyes...can't tell if it's coyote or dog
previous image ACH00054su shows it's likely deer
grey squirrels have a light-colored fringe on sides of tail...think this one has that..never even knew we had fox squirrels around here
yes, an opossum
notice how the scent bag is mostly gone...further proof
wow! rabbit by the tree, two deer just right of tree, two more (?) deer left of fire plug, finally hit the jackpot here
long ears + short tail + powerful hindquarters = rabbit
managed to miss the leucistic squirrel looking for the frog...I sort of see the frog now, but I think it's pine needles as escholzia says
#rabbit! you can kind of see the hind paws working together (hopping gait)
looks like a jogger headed toward the camera, reflective strips on the shoes
pretty sure they are all trash, except for the one nearly in the center, which is the scent bag...they do move around a bit, however
the "next" one, ACH00054yz, shows it's a cat
sometimes there is a strange light over the cross on the right
not seeing the frog, the black thing on the tree is the scent bag that lures the critters
most likely a Maine Coon Cat again
real live skunk on the right, shiny junk in the left foreground, thought it was a mouse the first time I saw it
think it may be a young 'un
I was thinking wild turkey, but not sure...mostly see Wild Turkey empties in these parts
proof of the Heisenberg hypothesis
sometimes it's hard to tell what you're looking at
hard to tell, but chipmunks stay in their burrows during winter -- probably looking at the hind end of a dog here
it's a deer resting, head is behind the skinny Y-shaped tree, see ACH0005iuh
it's a coyote (most likely) rolling with its feet in the air, snout pointed up...we actually get a lot of these
it's a blurry opossum, you can see the dark ears above the bright eyes
not seeing a bird here, the black thing on the tree is the scent bag that attracts the critters
the dark thing in the center is the scent bag, pretty sure the rest is trash
people have been thinking it's a nest of some kind, looks like it's made out of plastic bags
you can select critters more than once, so bird, 6+, head up then bird, 4, head down would work
one sickly-looking opossum
there's a raccoon named Heisenberg out there somewhere -- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phenylacetic_acid
mais c'est vrai
I'd go with raccoon, can kind of see the leathery front paws
on second look, might be the hind leg of a dog (?) plus dark shadows
looks like a "wood kitty", the kind you shouldn't try to pet
see discussion DCH000003y for zooming tips -- http://talk.chicagowildlifewatch.org/#/boards/BCH0000002/discussions/DCH000003y
the black object on the log is the scent bag that attracts the critters, you'll see one in most shots
juvenile coyote?
Arthur's ghost
I went with dog, noticed it's wearing a red harness behind the front shoulders...
mangy coyote tree hugger
#raccoons
best "deer checking out the scent bag" shot yet
just got this one too, it is indeed the first sample for red fox, I think they throw in some reruns like this as part of the research
it's a deer resting, you can see the ears on either side of the tree in the middle...quite a few photos of this one
#coyote in training
rabbit resting
canine fashion week
#redfox in training
yep, you can see the camera crew in the shot "before", ACH0006wok (until it gets officially identified as "human")
that's what we call a #whatsis, might be an opossum in a big hurry, but hard to tell
that's a #deer, the only wild non-human of that size we're likely to see
see the discussion thread DCH00000dg for tips on viewing images
the black spots are just the scent bag and some trash, but looks like a possible rabbit in the lower left corner
that's a #rabbit
#rabbit, head is just a bit blurred
dog wearing vest, on the way to his poker game
#redfox (?) no dark tip to the tail, maybe a dark ear visible
you're probably seeing the black scent bag that attracts the animals
seems the thumbnails don't show if you "poach" an image by its talk page URL...think this is a new problem
daytime #raccoon #pair with damp feet
nice deer checking out the scentbag
think I was fooled before by the "eyes" to the left of the raccoon, it's just shiny junk, not a mouse
oh, it's something Park Zoo!
vehicle says "ark oo", wonder what that means (ignored the human foot)
vertical squirrel selfie -- had to tilt the screen
ok, I marked this "vehicle,other"
maybe, this seems to be a very productive and diverse spot, starting around ACH0005d9b, animals in most of them
more likely raccoon based on the subtle stripes
another art shot
juvenile #coyote? tail seems darker than adult coyote
#coyote grooming
#deer #pair demonstrate behaviors
nice daytime raccoon
almost missed this daytime coyote, look for the dark-tipped tail
the thing on the tree in front is the scentbag that attracts the critters...you'll see them in most shots
or raccoon and rabbit? definite raccoon in front
SKUNK!
I believe there's a #mouse peering from behind the ruins of a plastic cup
I'm thinking human foot, toes pointed away from camera
you can barely see the long ears if you zoom in
looks like a 1964 #impala
deer movie ACH000dpdm ACH000dpdn ACH000dpdo ACH000dpdp ACH000dpdq ACH000dpdr ACH000dpds ACH000dpdt ACH000dpdu ACH000dpdv ACH000dpdw ...
not conclusive, but there's raccoon in ACH000dpqx, the image "before" this one
I picked raccoon
nice #deer
#cat, maybe Maine Coon Cat, too skinny and long-legged for #raccoon (?)
#redfox youth league
#rabbit had better be careful, looks like there may be trap next to one of the frames
hi-speed #redfox (or #whatsis)
maybe the moon reflected in the flood water?
that may be a fire plug, and yes, you can still see the images marked "human" in a couple of steps
#owl or #opossum in unusual upright pose?
not sure - seems to have very faint stripes on tail -- orange cat or blonde raccoon?
see ACH000e6zc -- not sure if it's sickly #coyote or #dog -- skinny tail, body tapered toward hindquarters
very rare tree #mink (?)
I would guess #rabbit, minks have a very dark coat
I thought canid (dog/coyote/fox) at first, but maybe feline (cat)? see the third sample cat
looks like raccoon basic training
most likely skunk, you can see a hint of the stripes behind the head
the black thing is the the scentbag that you'll see in most of the photos...good eyes spotting the deer!
most likely -- you can see a dark tip on the tail
definite non-kitty, with skinny tail
caught in the act...nice lanyard
raccoon in training
long ears on that squirrel, plus it's keeping late hours...
looks like deer is making eye contact with something, #whatsis
leucistic coyote? or trick of the light? or dog?
don't think this one is red fox, either gray fox or juvie coyote would be my guess
2 young raccoons on dangerous daytime patrol
does look a lot like gray fox ala google, too bad we can't see the face
caught in the act
just don't let it in the house http://tinyurl.com/ofnxxa2
critter -- see ACH0005ivr where the head is more visible
another raccoon with a skinny tail, looks healthy, maybe just summer weight coat
my first full bike, although I did see part of a wheel a bit earlier...
see ACH0005db8 for a sample of what I'm talking about
raccoon squabble
red sky at night?
I guess bike reflectors work well in the infrared...wish we had a "rotate 180" button
I was thinking skunk, I've seen a couple like this one at the same spot, might be busy digging...tail tends to be up when the head is down
#fawn ... smallest one yet
squirrel near the Humboldt Park boathouse
@Bonnie123, I also have issues with the site using Chrome, but Firefox is fine. See my comments on the discussion board.
animal yoga: upward facing squirrel
setting (?) sun captured in a discarded bottle (?) to the right of the tree
mangy raccoon? awful skinny tail...
close encounters of the furry kind
ghost rectangles in the sky
yes there is a deer here: ACH0005ivr
attack of the real estate developers?
#X-Files
I think Arthur grew up and moved over by barriercam
dog on the left could almost pass for coyote
...I wonder if it's a camera...
daytime raccoon, light coat color
see also ACH000dt1z -- not sure what the glowing thing is or what critter is stalking by
see also ACH000dt21 -- what's the object with glowing spots to the right of tree? not sure who owns the tail on the left
heh, just got this one too, even at this size, not as cute as the Australian possum
went with #coyote here over dog, looks like maybe a dark tip to the tail
like its distant much cuter Oz cousin, the American possum is a marsupial; there even a town called Possum Grape, Arkansas
address of the Irish bar on the t-shirt gives away the camera location, between the bar and the Irish American Heritage Center
looks like an oil painting with raccoon
scent bag seems to be attached to the tree, not sure what the dark object on the right is, maybe just rubbish
bluebell rabbit casts a long, rabbit-shaped shadow
more bluebell rabbit
yep, hopping away in ACH000bu0b
good eyes, jpmapd!
looks like the mangy coyote seen in ACH00035ky, same spot on right hind leg, same posture even, different location
I'd guess young coyote -- tail doesn't look as bad as the mangy one we saw the other day
pair of raccoons?
hmmm now it's marked human, those might be decorations in the hair of a child?
this is one where zooming doesn't help, but I'm think the close-spaced eyes indicate raccoon
I'd guess #rabbit, tail up in the air, hind paws kicking out to the left...kind of doing a handstand to celebrate spring...very rabbitlike
could almost be the other end of ACH000dpcm
how's this for a closeup? I guessed raccoon...
think I see a kangaroo
not a very active snake, check out ACH000c0m1, ACH000c0m2, ACH000c0m3, ACH000c0m4, ACH000c0m5 and so on
yes, could almost be a golden fallen on hard times, no idea what's up with the tail or the spot on the right hind leg
in other cases, the dark lump is there, but no "eye", see ACH00024tl
guessing this is an overlit deer, or another case for the X-Files
actually the rabbit is a bunch of these, but it does move a bit, start with ACH00024na and change the last letter...
there was one in the previous set where the "eye" turned out to be a discarded can or something if you looked at several from the same spot
(red fox is just my best guess...seems to be the best fit for faint, ambiguous image)
I got the impression of "black ears and black leg-stockings", see www.lpzoo.org/blog/conservation-field-diaries/chicago-canine-close
coyote with mange? as seen in http://www.lpzoo.org/blog/conservation-field-diaries/chicago-canine-close
definite rabbit on the left, not sure what the one on right is
don't give the city any ideas...
make it "2 deer head down", "1 deer head up", you can id multiples of the same creature this way, often useful for goose counting
rabbit-raccoon rendevous? not quite sure what the blur on the right is...
called the critter on the left #redfox
not sure how to classify the behavior here
#deer #pair
#coyote in a weird lighting effect
look! up in the sky! it's a bird! it's a plane! it's supersquirrel! (ok, not a flying squirrel, but a valiant effort)
raccoon to left of tree, see ACH0002p19
looks like a raccoon to me, have another at the same spot
here's another one with the imaginary "deer", like ACH0002t7m
pretty sure that's a coyote
yes, think the light is always there...fooled me the first time
#actioncoyotes
pretty funny, camera is very near the bargecam from the previous set...the fence and the lamposts are a clue, and the building clinches it
I think that's the scentbag, the bait that helps attract critters -- see ACH0002rnz for an example of why it looks a bit chewed
#coyote demonstrates snow depth
my first wildlife sighting in the new set
the barge is visible on Google earth, and you can even see the graffiti in street view
probably a #coyote rolling, we get a fair number of these
did this mink blink? looks like maybe a mink headed toward the tree, but no eyeshine...been wrong before...hope it's not the Maine Coon cat
it's a gas: http://static.zooniverse.org/www.chicagowildlifewatch.org/subjects/540f5d8769736d129de1d000.jpg
see the hole thing in action: http://www.chicagowildlifewatch.org/subjects/540f5d8269736d129ddbd000.jpg
not sure if this link will come through: http://www.rivercatsmainecoons.com/uploads/1/7/0/8/17089702/1376150_orig.jpg
I think the "stripes" are shadows, plus too much tail for a chipmunk
raccoon? looks like a snout on the left, pointing NW, maybe faint suggestion of an ear and a black mask if you zoom
looks like the dog is on a leash, and I'm guessing that's a human foot on the right....
if you squint, hint of a striped tail on the left, think this might be a young raccoon based on skinny tail
seems dark, probably rules out most birds, also squirrels...
...and I have a few picks I'd like to take back...
the "webbed" part is interesting, not sure how that happened...blur or IR effect...
#raccoon #trio showing their stripes
#melanisticgraysquirrel -- welcome to squirrel week
yikes, I'll take the coyote any day!
long ears, short tail, hopping gait...rabbit
looks like a rabbit to me
I went with gray squirrel here, due to frosted edges of tail, despite orange tone of face
voted melanistic gray squirrel here...maybe this can be squirrel week
more photos of car interiors?
either strange-looking fox squirrel or escaped capuchin monkey
I went with coyote, maybe young coyote, but probably forgot to click "young present"
finally went with coyote, another doubtful pick, maybe domestic dog? (or else mountain lion, fence kind of suggests lpzoo big cat house)
almost went with mouse, but looks like a very small rabbit when zoomed
could be one opossum in a pose like ACH0001jku
looks like at least one opossum, not sure whether there's another one behind it, or it just has its head turned toward its tail
I'd say rabbit too
definitely a rabbit
the object with "eyes" to the left of the dog is a beer (?) can, see ACH0001ssa
totally missed the human, had to tilt the screen...
not a vegan
strange pattern of glowing spots, mainly around the tree on the right...bioluminescence or camera artifact?
a rare sighting of ladderus steppus
looks like shot from open trunk or hatch?
face is blurred, but mask, ears, and nose say raccoon
likely Maine Coon Cat, big striped tail, makes head look small
I'd vote raccoon, based on size & shape of the tail
heh, I'd go possum again, you can just barely make out the tail, plus dark ears, light face...
tough one, maybe baby possum again? dark ears, light face say possum, don't know about the tail...
I'd say possum -- dark ears, light tail
weird shot, think the dark-tipped tail says coyote
Turdus migratorius it is, a female at that, males having a darker head
dark tip on the tail says coyote, see the 2nd sample image
#raccoon #pair
now there's an #opossum
hard to tell...might also be #raccoon...not enough critter here to be sure
looks more like squirrel to me, hard to tell which kind in this light, but may fox based on the size...experts may tell based on tail
wow, think I can see the vertical squirrel against the dark trunk in the center, good eyes there, but not seeing any ruminants...
see http://talk.chicagowildlifewatch.org/#/boards/BCH0000001/discussions/DCH00000dg for tips on zooming
looks like an opossum, maybe a young one again (?) see DCH00000dg for discussion of zooming
I think that's an opossum, might be a young one
agree about the cat and mouse, but not sure the mouse is dinner (yet)
d'oh, spotted the #actionchipmunk in the left foreground moments too late
looks like adult and child, this is one where tilting the screen a bit helps
I'd say mouse too, you can see the paws and the tail when zoomed in
yep, sure looks like 2 coyotes, good eyes finding the second one
also, the sample is stretched horizontally...they used a different aspect ratio for some reason
good eyes, but looks like ACH0000017 from Kabranigan's favorites is the sample...probably snapped seconds apart
this is the deer used as one of the samples
best guess -- one raccoon underneath another leaping (?) raccoon (?)
mouse (?) near the left eyes mysterious checkered object in front of the scent tag
I guess the light spot left of the tree is a tail, no idea who it belongs to...
might be a small rabbit, photo magic seems to show long ears, looks like rabbit facing right
yep, the dangerous end!
went a long time without seeing a #redfox, but that's changed
if you want a #headdown #coyote, here you go...
the thin, curved tail says dog...this is one where the small talk page image helps...I'd vote dog
not seeing anything...just the scent bag (or tag) on the tree and some of Arthur's kin...
I#rabbit, you can sort of see the ears if you zoom...see http://talk.chicagowildlifewatch.org/#/boards/BCH0000001/discussions/DCH00000dg
coyote chillin'
this is one where tilting the screen a bit really helped -- revealed the cat, domestic on the right
I'm still waiting for a horse or a bike
looks like a canid having a roll on the left, I picked coyote
I'd guess raccoon based on the faintly striped coat
caught in the act!
finally got this to classify -- pretty sure 1 coyote, head right, face blurred, tail left, paws toward camera, made it #headdown
I marked this one #headup, despite the obvious problem
is that a cat in the bottom right corner?
maybe a mink? I'm pretty sure a mink ran across my path up in Skokie Lagoons a few years back...we were both pretty surprised...
pretty sure that's a raccoon, nose pointed toward the tree, tail curled around to its left out of sight...black-gloved feet another clue
@jpmapd, you may have it, that would explain why the tail isn't visible, and we've seen some vorpal rabbits around
pretty sure that was a raccoon, based on the image from the recent comments page...here on the discussion page, it's now tagged as "human"
I'm guessing the bright spots are distant lights, think they're normally picked up this camera
with a little photo magic, looks like an opossum, head toward the right, but turned slightly away from the camera...dark legs the key
I think this image got tagged as human by mistake...doesn't make much sense, since you can still get at it via two collections
here's another view of the same spot http://talk.chicagowildlifewatch.org/#/subjects/ACH0001y9n
not quite a unicorn
hard to tell, but a "mouse" has been seen at this spot several times...mainly just one bright eye
looks like the end of a downed tree -- object 2nd from the right with light center and dark edges?
I'd go with dog -- coyote has a bigger tail and longer coat
photo finish -- by a nose
I'm assuming there's a deer there...I guessed "head down", but maybe "not visible" would the safe answer
nice #raccoon #pair
pigeon fanciers
rabbits invented curiousity
d'oh! missed the third coyote too!
finally went with #dog, but #whatsis?
did someone say red fox? #redfox
we are missing the story here...and the coyote is missing its tail
(zooming way in, I now see those are paws, not hooves)
maybe young deer, not coyote?
#rib66xyz, once you point it out, it's obvious...
that's a whole lotta tail...think may red fox or coyote, laying down
coyote blinded by the glare from one of those annoying CFL bulbs
beaver?
ok we have the vine, now where's Tarzan?
think this camera is in Australia
#raccoon #trio
not the land of arthur, too much interesting stuff, see http://talk.chicagowildlifewatch.org/#/collections/CCHS000043 for 5790 examples
...and what looks like a stubby cat tail is a paw (?)
this is one where zoomed out is less confusing than zoomed in -- guess the tail is curled toward the left, looks like a branch (?)
cat?
one bright eye and an air of mystery => #rabbit (?)
name that tail (went with #coyote, really not sure)
see http://talk.chicagowildlifewatch.org/#/boards/BCH0000001/discussions/DCH00000dg for a discussion of zooming
lot of shots with just a bit of tail, probably helps explain all those shots with nothing, if you think about it...
#skunk indeed
can't quite see the tail rings, but I'd say #raccoon too
a tough one, but if you zoom in, looks like skinny tail, so I'd say #opossum
finally got to classify this, went with #rat
DO NOT MAKE EYE CONTACT!!!!
went with #muskrat, long shot, but the tail seems to match the sample pretty well
photo magic appears to reveal it's lurking behind a tree, but it does give of the impression of being a rabbit
see also http://talk.chicagowildlifewatch.org/#/subjects/ACH0001mh6 - coyote goofing off, doesn't look quite like this one
hind legs may have "dark stockings" like a fox, probably one for the experts
see this blog post: http://www.lpzoo.org/blog/conservation-field-diaries/chicago-canine-close
good eyes spotting the one on the right...I'd guess two coyotes
maybe a chipmunk?
I'd guess raccoon, based on the dark band of fur at the neck...maybe a young one based on size...too bad we can't see the tail
looks like an opossum, the head is pointed away and a little to the left -- you can see the darker ears against the lighter fur on the head
I'd say it's a raccoon tail, super close-up
sometimes people think the bump on the right of the tree is something, and while it may be caused by a tree virus, it's just a bump
I call this one "barriercam" for the large metal object on the left, a couple of owls were spotted here, but nothing here at the moment
this is one I call "tiltcam", see some others in my collection: http://talk.chicagowildlifewatch.org/#/collections/CCHS000044
definitely something there -- zoom way in with ctrl-+ and it seems to have a long dark tail -- maybe a muskrat or one big plain old rat?
I'd guess opossum, based on longish snout and the seemingly light-colored fur (had to zoom and add photo magic)
yep, rabbit caught mid-hop
#coyote, #dog, or #tasmaniandevil?
young (?) fox (?) #squirrel hanging with #arthur
#coyote #pair
probable #dog -- appears to be a leash if you apply photo magic
one bright eye, but not much else
#coyote #pair -- one #headup, one #headdown, but I'd say the behavior is the same....
#raccoon #pair (the trend continues)
#raccoon #pair (trend of the day)
#raccoon #pair (left profile)
#raccoon #pair (the eyes have it)
an example of shooting yourself in the foot?
some strange ripple in the space-time continuum?
#raccoon #pair #closeup
I voted #dog, seems to be wearing a red vest...
#coyote takes a break
sometimes #arthur gets downright weird
most like an #opossum, looks like darker legs
ok, I just like this one
#arthur versus pac-man
wow, a boating party on the south branch
I'd vote #opossum based on the ears seeming darker...maybe a juvenile
woo woo! #arthur and a #coyote!
first arthur? I've found 1651 so far: http://talk.chicagowildlifewatch.org/#/collections/CCHS000043
pretty sure the thing on the right trunk is a burl or canker...or at least something that doesn't move much
we call him #arthur
very nice skunk, looked #headdown to me
don't worry, there are always more squirrels where that one came from
there's bright spot at the very top near the center, left of where the broken branch makes a triangle...photo magic doesn't help identify
#arthur takes a holiday
late response, but I think it's tumor or burl on the tree...see this location a lot, think it's always there
a squirrel eyes #arthur
probably just some trash next to the post on the left...you can see a couple of discarded cups...couple of shiny "eye" spots
May be a possum, based on the light fur and the dark ear, plus a hint of dark legs. Kind of odd posture, though. Might be a young one.
#arthur and friend
#rabbit -- one eye clearly visible, not sure why there's a second shiny spot between the rabbit and the tree
Hard to tell...maybe there's are "newer" and "older" pools of pix, and the system grabs from the newer pix more often?
pretty clearly a #cat when I looked at it again...
See also http://talk.chicagowildlifewatch.org/#/boards/BCH0000002/discussions/DCH000003y -- I'm wondering if there's a photo adjust add-on
+1 on the on-screen contrast. However, I just noticed that tilting the laptop screen a bit makes the rabbit easy to see...
voted #dog, looks like its rolling on its back, very odd-looking pose, #whatsis
I right-click and select "Copy Image" then paste into Paint Shop Pro (poor person's Photoshop)...then Fill Flash or One-Step Photo Fix
looks like something hit the fan
the branch in daylight: http://talk.chicagowildlifewatch.org/#/subjects/ACH0001n08
here's the branch in daylight: http://talk.chicagowildlifewatch.org/#/subjects/ACH0001n08
see for http://talk.chicagowildlifewatch.org/#/subjects/ACH0001wch for a similar rabbit (visible with some image magic)
definite rabbit, used my trusty image editor to see it
dog it is
for a more dramatic example, see http://talk.chicagowildlifewatch.org/#/subjects/ACH0001lxn
pretty sure that's just a branch, see http://talk.chicagowildlifewatch.org/#/subjects/ACH0001lql
pretty sure the thing on the right is just a branch, seems to show up frequently
yep, opossum, think the tail is there if you zoom way in, but it looks just like a stick
yep obvious dog in hindsight (heh)
after playing with the image, it does look like a rabbit, but maybe a 3/4 profile, somehow only seeing the left eye
#whatsis -- dog (?) plus something with glowing eyes to its left
maybe just an IR effect, but looks like #albino #oppossum
I picked the grey fox, not likely, but #whatsis?
#whatsis? furry tail, so not a possum, skinny tail, so not a raccoon...maybe young grey fox, but the legs are too dark...voted #cat
#arthur and squirrel
went with mink as well, more likely a cat
sonic the #chipmunk (think I see a stripe...)
I'd say dog as well, tail toward us, head pointing left...maybe wearing a sweater...don't have a selection for what the animal is wearing
not sure what's going on here with #arthur
ok, you don't have to be a predator to be fascinated by the #scentbag
#arthur and fox (?) #squirrel
guessed #rabbit but hard to tell...maybe more than one rabbit?
h'mmm my second time around on this one...what are the odds?
#tiltcam
good grooming is sooo important
counted all these as #headdown
ok, think that's a #mouse next to the tree on the left...need to zoom way in...beats the rabibit even for size of eyes to the overall size
#squirrel, tail only? or the peanut from outta space?
pretty sure it's just a funky leaf, based on many subsequent visits to #arthur
#headdown?
agree, #owl
#goose selfie
#arthur and the squirrel, part 3
don't make eye contact
ok, resting with #headup, should be #headdown?
another #arthur mystery (probably just a stray leaf)
ghost #deer? faint image of something like a deer's hindquarters on the left, but seems to be translucent...
I was thinking maybe #raccoon going for the tree...can't explain the rectangular patch on the left flank...
#arthur looking a little worse for wear

ok, voted #oppossum, but #whatsis?
#arthur and me
looks like the snout is too pointy, so I'd guess raccoon, except you can't see any banding in the tail...maybe due to IR light photography
I was a teenage #arthur
wow #tiltcam finally caught an animal...at least I think that's a #bird there (?)
that's one red/orange tail! #foxsquirrel
song of #arthur
heh, was kind of thinking along the same lines...there's that one tilted cam that only shows cars...but pix may be years old...

hmm, going with #oppossum, but where's the tail?
runs like a #deere
Deer neck foreground, but also deer legs in background. Not enough for a whole animal, but it's a start.
I made this one #headup, but he seems to be having a feed, so maybe #headdown would be more appropriate?
seems like a #whatsis

I'm guessing #raccoon as well
umm #scentbag

could be a #beaver...or just a #raccoon
nothing here but a #ghost
ok, nevermind, the black thing is just the #scentbag
very assymetrical antlers
calling the bright eyes a #mouse, but there's also a black #whatsis on the bush above the eyes
#deer tail? samples images should include both ends...
ok, I'm guessing a #squirrel keeping early or late hours...

a few point on this one...
#pinkhaze
#foxsquirrel (?) definitely #headup and #adorable
glowing eyes in the upper right, I'm guessing #rabbit based on their orientation
easy to miss the young #deer in the foreground unless you zoom in...bright background on the page does not help for dimly lit shots
nice #garage
almost looks like an #albino #opossum
possible #raccoon #pair -- one stares at the camera while the other checks it out?
easy to miss the #oppossum on the left, have no idea what the four bright spots on the log near the remains of the scent bag are...#whatsis
nice rack
#bird, maybe #owl?
long ears + short tail = #rabbit
a #whatsis got a little too close to the camera
I'm guessing #rabbit, are those ears at the bottom of the frame? or #whatsis
looks like some sort of fringed garment in the lower left, pretty sure I see a stitched seam...
the view is just so much better from up there
#rabbit or #jackalope? you be the judge
not sure about the light on the far right, suspecting a streetlamp
to zoom in firefox, right-click "copy image location", paste in new tab, use ctrl-plus (hold ctrl, hit +/= key) to zoom
may be an eye left of the slanting tree, also I see a very faint #coyote facing away but looking right, just to the left of the plant
possibly a #whatsis to the left of the tree with the scent bag? no clue which end is the head if so, marked it "nothing here"
#coyote - 2? 3? resting? feeding?
OK, guessing this is a tail, probably a #dog
possible #tasmaniandevil or unidentified flying #whatsis
#raccoon #trio? pretty clearly one standing facing away, one looking toward the camera, and another in the foreground? or #whatsis?
#sqirrel making a break for it
think is the second time I've seen this one, guessing #raccoon due to the suggestion of a ring tail...think that's a hind paw sticking out
with a name like "Chicago Ship and Sanitary Canal", how can it be anything other than a wildlife haven?
not sure how useful this is to science, but guessing that's a #raccoon in the lower left
the lights of the #Stevenson #I-55 help narrow down the location
#yawn nothing but a few #geese here and one late-night #coyote, easy spot to identify though....
#s quirrel or #whatsis?
#raccoon or #whatsis? You be the judges....
I guessed a young #opossum, otherwise #whatsis?
looks like an opossum, tail pointing left
oops, we may have run out of images, see the "wow busy day!" discussion....
almost looks like a kitteh, but I think it's a raccoon as seen in ACH000a790
yes, and we now have a name for it...cyclops rabbit
actually looks like a fox squirrel to me
that's the scent bag that lures the critters...it's usually attached to a tree as in ACH0008yq1, but sometimes the critters get frisky
most likely a deer, compare to third deer sample image
wow busy day, we went from 98% complete yesterday to "100%" today! over 2.7 million classifications! we may actually run out of images soon!
lined up to sample the fragrances
robin on the left, looks like another bird (dove?) a bit further left in the mid-background
compare to ACH0008jjn, think it might be the individual seen in ACH0008jjg
r-r-rabbit
yep, definite raccoon
think it's the funky deer seen in ACH000bsx2 ACH000bsx3
rabbits are the eyeshine champs
maybe a rabbit just right of the white post, fuzzy spot that's missing in other images from this camera
raccoon seems like a good guess, compare to ACH0009trc
yep, raccoons
I guess it's a Cyclops rabbit, but definite rabbit anyhow
something indeed, compare to raccoon in ACH0009u1p
awww
marvel-ous
not seeing anything but fog, compare to eyes in ACH00078n0
golden retriever
lots of eyeshine and adorable short fluffy tail makes this a r-r-rabbit!
most likely raccoon, we see a lot of similar images
definite raccoon
looks like a red fox, dark ears, dark legs
c-c-coyote
r-r-rabbit
I'd call that a rabbit (or, r-r-rabbit!)
that's the scent bag used to attract the critters, you'll see one in most of the photos, except where raccoons and coyotes have stolen them
that is indeed a raccoon behind bars
another tough case -- compare to bunny in ACH000bs9h, curious deer in ACH000bs97, and coyote in ACH000bs9i
this is a tough one, but looking at the zoomed out (smaller) image, this might be a young opossum, lighter face and very pointy snout
striped tail indicates raccoon, compare to ACH000fn26...the trash probably indicates this is near a fishing spot
if you zoom way in, you may be able to see the long ears, but this is one stealthy rabbit
like a bird on a fence /
so I must wonder whence
squirrel version of deer selfie
just a bunny, see ACH000a7dx ACH000a7dy
coyote-ish looking critter here in ACH0006wep
blob may be a 2nd rabbit, head down toward the right, compare to ACH000gd6j ACH000gd6o; "ears" on left end are just something behind fence
just a coy coyote
yep, opossum, dark legs with light body, tail does not register well in many photos
raccoons of the day
wow this spot is rat central
definite rabbit here, I think the dark spot is probably just something on the ground...
definite largish rabbit here in ACH000fmvo, this might be the same critter
h'mmm looks like a daytime feline to me
not sure on the pigeon count here
#opossum pair
deer showing off antlers
deer contemplates weed whacker
daytime coyote #pair
rat
cat working the graveyard shift
some day, CWW will let us draw little balloons to show what the animals are thinking
another crashed coyote
high-stepping fawn
bird and bunny 2-for-1 special
h'mmm, compare to ACH0009mta
that's a weed cutter leaning against the fence, but it's been leaning there a while...they put the scent bag on it at one point
skunks have very expressive tails
a coyote for all seasons -- ACH000f9tb
looking at the images near this one (URL-wise), the bright spot moves around, so I'd guess rabbit; stationary spot might be shiny junk
ah, the hand in this image does seem to match what's seen in ACH000btag...perhaps one of the camera volunteers?
ah, should have gone with fox squirrel just based on the attitude...
coyote with eye stripes
juvenile gray squirrel
unusually colored (gray?) squirrel revealing bits we don't usually see
rabbit keeping tabs on the supply chain
#actionsquirrel
up-down #squirrel #pair
think we have an alarmed deer, see ACH0009lp0
oops, wrong end of the rabbit
looks like a r-r-rabbit! to me
odd-looking rabbit, I'd be tempted to guess red fox kit due to the dark nose and light chest
yep, cat
hélas, le coyote rusé a volé le sac
actually this one appears to be a coyote (dark tip to the tail), and the one before (ACH000ax73) is one of our very large raccoons
#actionsquirrel
looked like #skunk to me too
dog is likely, this seems like another big dogwalking spot
possibly pac-man.....
I'm sure there's a perfectly logical explanation, such as nighttime lawn care by a tall gray extraterrestrial...
#actionsquirrel (low light edition)
ah, I see an Action Squirrels! update
r-r-rabbit!
#actionsquirrel
see comments for ACH000c1zh, ACH000c0m6, and ACH000c0yq
hungry-looking young coyote
we've seen coyote puppies here before, check out my collection...
looks like a piece of wood, but that human should be tagged as human
adding scent to the scent bag
just a stick, see comments ACH000c1zh and ACH000c0m6, and rabbit in ACH000c0z0; seems like this camera is stuck snapping at mostly nothing
yep, looks like fox squirrel to me
#rabbit
light-colored fur points to opossum, compare to ACH0008ja4 (different location)
compare to rabbit in ACH000casw, raccoon in ACH000cate, opossum in ACH000casa; maybe rabbit doing a bit of digging?
#actionsquirrel
2 #deer camping out
looks like an opossum going vertical; their tails are often hard to see anyway since they tend to look like the sticks littering the ground
yep, deer
#deer
#deer
fox and gray squirrel together?
just a pine cone or two; somebody "adjusted" the camera for us, so rare to see an animal here
just chillin', dark tip on the tail ids it as coyote
squirrel demonstrating proper climbing technique
ACH0005riz
take me to your leader
#redfox, maybe doing the canid roll
mainly just tracks in the snow, maybe a tail or paw in the lower right
#raccoon
super sparkly snow
#actionsquirrel
looks like kitty in ACH000624l, I imagine I can read "vodka" on the bottle in the foreground...(though cats by and large prefer gin)
good eyes, we watch squirrels, squirrels watch us
so much for my theory
yep, you can see a rabbit face under the leaf
yes, raccoon
#actionsquirrel
color too light for raccoon, compare to ACH0006dz1 (size can be deceptive)
#actionsquirrel
awful skinny tail, maybe mangy coyote, see ACH000cg38 for size comparison
I'd guess raccoon, tail blurry, see ACH000h2xe
awww
I've noticed a lot of runs of 2 or 3 from the same spot, so maybe it's random within a certain range of images, not the whole database
yes, I've been hearing and seeing more crows recently; also I believe that's Lake Michigan in the background
the smaller image looks like a raccoon, compare to ACH000dvgw
the sticks are there in ACH000b0m4, but the critter is not...
but awww moments ACH000b0lo ACH000b0lw ACH000b0lx ACH000b0ly
looks somewhat skinnier than the one in ACH0004qwz
awww
I was going to say something about Superdog, but that brings to mind Superdawg, whose sole nemesis is ketchup
rabbit!
lighter than hare
we get a lot of these art shots, something to do with the light (dawn/dusk?); human on the left edge, maybe a raccoon left of the tree
black and white says skunk, sometimes the stripes are less distinct than you'd expect...compare to 3rd sample skunk image
too bad we don't have fish category, this one is a pollock (Jackson Pollock, that is)
it's a juvenile robin, they lose their spots as they age...
mercifully, the "vehicle, other" category was eliminated a while back, no more planes, trains, and golf carts
awww
possibly #bipedal #rabbit
raccoons jealous of red pandas
very stylish rabbit
as long as skunks don't climb trees...
I see "critter" above the fallen branch, eye lines up just left of the scent bag...now can't decide whether it's real or illusion
daytime opossum
looks like a pile of either wood chips or "mulch" (ground up leaves, bark, and branches)...often used to keep weeds at bay
yes, pretty sure...light is not quite right to bring out iridescence
found it, but I think it may be a member of the squirrel family
"We better stop
Children, what's that sound?
There are more things on the northwest side, Horatio,
Than are dreamt of in your philosophy.
not sure, night shot makes me think beaver, woodchucks seem to like sunlight
maybe a clue in ACH000b2yo? or ACH000b2yp if you prefer...busy spot in any case
cattitude
hard-to-spot coyote under the tilted tree (incorrectly thought there was another one on the right)
all scientific knowledge is approximate, some approximations are better than others; too bad we don't have a "bison" option
ok, there is such a thing as a head-up #opossum
you could do the Chicago Chipmunk Watch at my house
fawn and mysterious moving bright spot ACH000btc6 ACH000btc5
see rabbit head down in ACH000h9rh, hanging around a lot in ACH000h9q6 to ACH000h9rj
looks a little like a #woodchuck - maybe @lleher can take a look?
both are deer, light and shadow give the one in the background an unusual appearance
rabbit!
rabbit-infested spot: ACH000fv6m ACH000fv6k ACH000fv6l
not sure, but compare to raccoon at same spot in ACH000ddk1
...see ACH0006kci
if you seeing the thing near the left edge, it's a tree root or something that never moves, but Fooled The Experts for a while...
looks like a coyote with a drinking problem...blame the roadrunner
nice raccoon family here, you can see the dark mask on the one on the right
bright spot is there in ACH000cre1 and many others, think it's just a really bright streetlight
you can see the head facing away from the camera now that I look at it again
#actionraccoon
possibly just some trash, check out ACH00062ok, which includes an actual animal for comparison...trash bag moves around in adjacent shots
another stuck camera, ACH000fvc0 through ACH000fvcz seems to be the same spot, "nothing here" in the ones I checked
super-blurry canid left of the foreground tree, maybe a young coyote, but off-leash dog a strong possibility here
I think it's just brush left over after cutting...Common Buckthorn Rhamnus cathartica is big problem here, think those green leaves are it
I'd normally guess opossum for this kind of gray blur, but might be a coyote tail here based on size -- see ACH000b69l for comparison
#actionrabbit
tough case for sure, face looks a little bull terrier, normally I'd guess coyote at night
not sure what we have to the right of the tree...rabbit? raccoon? opossum?
yes, ringed tail visible if you zoom way in -- think the skinny tail means young raccoon or maybe just summer coat
the amount of eyeshine relative to the body size makes me think rabbit, also the eye is shining to the side versus straight ahead
think it's an American Crow Corvus brachyrhynchos -- they've been in decline here recently due to West Nile virus
#redfox
headlights, road back there, see ACH000fnx9 -- too bright for eyeshine if you can't see the critter, may look rectangular when zoomed
#actionrabbit
see ACH0004q1k for my reasoning on the 2-raccoon hypothesis (plus, it's adorable)
#actionsquirrel
mini coyote
could be a Great Horned owl or a young raccoon on the right, cool picture regardless
cool 2 #deer
eyes or headlights? they look rectangular when zoomed, so I'm thinking headlights, other images from here seem to confirm this
I think it's a Common grackle, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_grackle
it did look like a worried deer, but closer inspection shows 2nd coyote, see http://tinypic.com/r/24nfspg/8 for a "fill flash" version
rabbit in its rabbitat
#actionsquirrel
where'd everybody go?
mower or terminator?
might be a different animal based on size, see ACH0009te7
#rabbit!
hmmm big cat, see raccoon in ACH000bqx8 for size comparison
looks like it's dragging a leash, so I guess dog
daytime view of the thing to the right of the tree...broken tree strap?
rabbit-rabbit interaction? we don't have the right behavior option if I'm right...
scrawny coyote (?)
#actionsquirrel
maybe raccoon based on the size, but just guessing
good example of Vehicle, Other
think it's the scent bag, see ACH00054nv
#raccoon, see it ducking under the log in ACH000avgu
fallen tree decoy only
tough one, dark ears and feet may indicate #redfox, looks like a juvenile to me
#junk, you see it in daylight sometimes, just a piece of plastic
#inverted #rabbit #headdown #extremely #155degrees
daytime coyote
fox?
I like the detail on the fuzzy antlers
Miwaukee Road north line train pulls into station bearing same name as the park hosting the camera
kind of badgery looking, but big raccoon in ACH00053qj at a different hour
I'd vote raccoon, red fox has longer, dark ears
raccoon it is, tails can be thin like this (summer coat? young raccoon?)
front page http://daily.zooniverse.org/2015/05/03/snapshot-sunday-how-much-wood-could-a-woodchuck-chuck/
I'd vote rat
#actionsquirrel
ummm scent bag!
resting deer before settling down, also ACH0005ivd ACH0005ive ACH0005ivf ACH0005ivg
that's our resting deer doing some grooming
step 1: identify which end of the animal you are looking at
the one hind paw clearly has five separate toes, #raccoon a good bet
young ones anyway, I think they stick with mom for quite a while
agree it's likely a coyote heading away, this is one where a smaller image is better
I just liked the disks lower left of the scent bag tree, unusual lens flare, I think of lens flare as fish-shaped
dark tipped tail says coyote, maybe young coyote?
definite rabbit here, reared up on hind legs, probably washing face
or rabbit?
went with #foxsquirrel here, great shot of the tail pattern and beefy (?) limbs
cat is pretending to be a mink, won't get fooled again
aww
odd glowing disks to the left of the tree
"cast a long shadow" (decided not to tag this as human...)
leafy trees hint this picture is not too recent...folks like to adjust the cameras for fun
deer rendevous
probably raccoon, hind legs look right, tail is sometimes skinny like this one's
dark ears say opossum, while rat is kind of rat-colored all over
I believe it may be a #woodchuck, uptick in recent woodchuck spottings
dark tip on the tail means coyote
coyote pups check out the scent bag
cat with raccoon tail -- stripes continue on hind legs
light gray squirrel
daytime #coyote
it may be plastic bag, see ACH000814v
the thing near the top left is a rock or a tree (doesn't move) but it did fool the professionals until escholzia busted it
fox squirrel, punk attitude
I'd go with woodchuck too
it's an odd piece of junk, you sometimes get a daytime shot of it
heh mineral or vegetable (root) but not animal ACH0006kcj ACH0006kck ACH0006kcl ACH0006kcm ACH0006kcn ACH0006kco (ooh, a duck!) ACH0006kcp
scent bag almost in the middle, the rest is just junk that blows around a bit
good eyes again...other images like ACH000b42w show fixed objects left of tree...likely rabbit on the right, but photo magic can't confirm
not sure what the bright spots are...may be a bio phenom, probably not a furry animal
good eyes...can't tell if it's coyote or dog
previous image ACH00054su shows it's likely deer
grey squirrels have a light-colored fringe on sides of tail...think this one has that..never even knew we had fox squirrels around here
good eyes!
yes, an opossum
notice how the scent bag is mostly gone...further proof
#actionrabbit
wow! rabbit by the tree, two deer just right of tree, two more (?) deer left of fire plug, finally hit the jackpot here
long ears + short tail + powerful hindquarters = rabbit
managed to miss the leucistic squirrel looking for the frog...I sort of see the frog now, but I think it's pine needles as escholzia says
#rabbit! you can kind of see the hind paws working together (hopping gait)
looks like a jogger headed toward the camera, reflective strips on the shoes
pretty sure they are all trash, except for the one nearly in the center, which is the scent bag...they do move around a bit, however
the "next" one, ACH00054yz, shows it's a cat
sometimes there is a strange light over the cross on the right
not seeing the frog, the black thing on the tree is the scent bag that lures the critters
most likely a Maine Coon Cat again
real live skunk on the right, shiny junk in the left foreground, thought it was a mouse the first time I saw it
think it may be a young 'un
#raccoons
#raccoon
best "deer checking out the scent bag" shot yet
just got this one too, it is indeed the first sample for red fox, I think they throw in some reruns like this as part of the research
it's a deer resting, you can see the ears on either side of the tree in the middle...quite a few photos of this one
2 young raccoons on dangerous daytime patrol
does look a lot like gray fox ala google, too bad we can't see the face
daytime #coyote
caught in the act
just don't let it in the house http://tinyurl.com/ofnxxa2
critter -- see ACH0005ivr where the head is more visible
another raccoon with a skinny tail, looks healthy, maybe just summer weight coat
my first full bike, although I did see part of a wheel a bit earlier...
see ACH0005db8 for a sample of what I'm talking about
raccoon squabble
red sky at night?
caught in the act
I guess bike reflectors work well in the infrared...wish we had a "rotate 180" button
I was thinking skunk, I've seen a couple like this one at the same spot, might be busy digging...tail tends to be up when the head is down
#fawn ... smallest one yet
squirrel near the Humboldt Park boathouse
@Bonnie123, I also have issues with the site using Chrome, but Firefox is fine. See my comments on the discussion board.
animal yoga: upward facing squirrel
setting (?) sun captured in a discarded bottle (?) to the right of the tree
caught in the act
mangy raccoon? awful skinny tail...
close encounters of the furry kind
ghost rectangles in the sky
#fawn
yes there is a deer here: ACH0005ivr
attack of the real estate developers?
I guessed raccoon...
aww
think I see a kangaroo
not a very active snake, check out ACH000c0m1, ACH000c0m2, ACH000c0m3, ACH000c0m4, ACH000c0m5 and so on
yes, could almost be a golden fallen on hard times, no idea what's up with the tail or the spot on the right hind leg
in other cases, the dark lump is there, but no "eye", see ACH00024tl
guessing this is an overlit deer, or another case for the X-Files
actually the rabbit is a bunch of these, but it does move a bit, start with ACH00024na and change the last letter...
there was one in the previous set where the "eye" turned out to be a discarded can or something if you looked at several from the same spot
I'd say mouse too, you can see the paws and the tail when zoomed in
yep, sure looks like 2 coyotes, good eyes finding the second one
also, the sample is stretched horizontally...they used a
different aspect ratio for some reason
good eyes, but looks like ACH0000017 from Kabranigan's favorites is the sample...probably snapped seconds apart
this is the deer used as one of the samples
best guess -- one raccoon underneath another leaping (?) raccoon (?)
mouse (?) near the left eyes mysterious checkered object in front of the scent tag
#raccoon #trio
see http://talk.chicagowildlifewatch.org/#/boards/BCH0000001/discussions/DCH00000dg for a discussion of zooming
lot of shots with just a bit of tail, probably helps explain all those shots with nothing, if you think about it...
#raccoon #trio

here's the branch in daylight: http://talk.chicagowildlifewatch.org/#/subjects/ACH0001n08
see for http://talk.chicagowildlifewatch.org/#/subjects/ACH0001wch for a similar rabbit (visible with some image magic)
definite rabbit, used my trusty image editor to see it
dog it is
for a more dramatic example, see http://talk.chicagowildlifewatch.org/#/subjects/ACH0001lxn
pretty sure that's just a branch, see http://talk.chicagowildlifewatch.org/#/subjects/ACH0001lql
pretty sure the thing on the right is just a branch, seems to show up frequently
yep, opossum, think the tail is there if you zoom way in, but it looks just like a stick
yep obvious dog in hindsight (heh)
after playing with the image, it does look like a rabbit, but maybe a 3/4 profile, somehow only seeing the left eye
#coyote #pair
#arthur and squirrel
went with mink as well, more likely a cat
sonic the #chipmunk (think I see a stripe...)
I'd say dog as well, tail toward us, head pointing left...maybe wearing a sweater...don't have a selection for what the animal is wearing
not sure what's going on here with #arthur
ok, you don't have to be a predator to be fascinated by the #scentbag
#raccoon #pair
#arthur and fox (?) #squirrel

counted all these as #headdown
ok, think that's a #mouse next to the tree on the left...need to zoom way in...beats the rabibit even for size of eyes to the overall size

looks like the snout is too pointy, so I'd guess raccoon, except you can't see any banding in the tail...maybe due to IR light photography
@DZM, seem to see #arthur ever 10 minutes or so...he's kind of a camera hog...started this after seeing him twice in a row...
the world according to #arthur
#arthur goes Hawaiian
wascally wabbit? (ears laid back?)
godzilla vs. #arthur
the many faces of #arthur
#Arthur Comes Home
#redfox #scentbag
(h'mmm is it #headup (head is above shoulders) or #headdown (it's busy sniffing the scentbag)?)
The Incredible Shrinking #Arthur
Dances with #Arthur
Field of #Arthur
#Arthur and the Temple of Doom
I Remember #Arthur
from here to #arthur
#arthur strikes again
mysterious - definitely one #skunk, maybe something else or just a flower pot to the right, maybe another critter near the headstone
the secret life of #arthur
#arthur strikes back
#raccoon #trio
the return of #arthur
gonna call that stupid plant in the foreground #arthur
#skunk #scentag
clap if you believe in #tinkerbell
maybe #coyote #headdown, too big for a #raccoon
think the nose is to the ground, muzzle parallel to diagonal branch
thought #cougar for 1s
trailcam selfie
hmm, going with #oppossum, but where's the tail?
runs like a #deere
Deer neck foreground, but also deer legs in background. Not enough for a whole animal, but it's a start.
I made this one #headup, but he seems to be having a feed, so maybe #headdown would be more appropriate?
seems like a #whatsis
nice sharp #raccoon, put this one in a gallery
I'm guessing #raccoon as well
umm #scentbag
#skunk #raccoon #standoff
one well-concealed #rabbit
guessing that's a #mouse eye
guessed #rat, maybe #squirrel? #whatsis
shy #opossum peeking out from behind the #scentbag
wow #muskrat (?)
#raccoon #pair commuting
#deer #resting (h'mmm, wonder how many snaps of the same deer in the same spot?)
name that #tail -- I guess #cat
#deer #resting
I managed to overlook the blur in the foreground, guess we have a #coyote #pair, but hard to be sure
#squirrel #pair #chase
camera must be in #australia
#dog exiting right with #human with flashlight entering left?
#deer head down #kneeling or #whatsis?
shaggy #dog or #whatsis?
#deer buck with his head down to the left of the tree, not sure if the bright spot above his right antler is an eye or a light, zoom in!
#coyote is ready for his closeup
young #opossum #pair
#rabbit #pair
#rabbit washing its face
I went with #rat to the left of the tree, but really #whatsis
could be a #beaver...or just a #raccoon
nothing here but a #ghost
ok, nevermind, the black thing is just the #scentbag
very assymetrical antlers
calling the bright eyes a #mouse, but there's also a black #whatsis on the bush above the eyes
#deer tail? samples images should include both ends...
ok, I'm guessing a #squirrel keeping early or late hours...
marked it "nothing here", but there is something unusual in the upper left, not quite a hoof, #whatsis
#muskrat or #whatsis ... I'm assuming that is a face there in the lower right corner
#raccoon #pair
#opossum #raccoon #action
#raccoon #skunk #action
#opossum or #whatsis
a few point on this one...
#pinkhaze
#foxsquirrel (?) definitely #headup and #adorable
glowing eyes in the upper right, I'm guessing #rabbit based on their orientation
#groovy
easy to miss the young #deer in the foreground unless you zoom in...bright background on the page does not help for dimly lit shots
nice #garage
almost looks like an #albino #opossum
possible #raccoon #pair -- one stares at the camera while the other checks it out?
easy to miss the #oppossum on the left, have no idea what the four bright spots on the log near the remains of the scent bag are...#whatsis
#s
quirrel or #whatsis?
#raccoon or #whatsis? You be the judges....
I guessed a young #opossum, otherwise #whatsis?
