Chicago Wildlife Watch Talk
Sneaky raccoon in between the trees
Looks like a classic "hand on lens" photo to me.
Two common grackle
Female cardinal, maybe?
American robin, upper left (base of left most plant)
Looks like a gull flying away from the camera/over the fence.
Looks like a chipmunk at the base of the foremost tree.
Wood duck pair
Red-winged blackbird
Hesitantly marked this as a bird thinking it was probably a scent bag. Definitely looks to be a scent bag now that I check other images!
Bird in upper-left of the water; guessing European Starling.
Grackle does make more sense... I think the head might be motion blurred a bit and throwing me off.
I might be seeing things - but looks like a gray squirrel tail (upper right edge) and a melanistic gray squirrel head (lower right edge)?
Not sure on this one - looks like a duck by head shape?
Two birds in back-middle - hard to ID but likely grackle (Quiscalus quiscula) or starling (Sturnus vulgaris)
Yep, I see the Turdus migratorius too 😃
American Robin (Turdus migratorius)
#deer #dailyzoo
I'm pretty sure there's a bird just right and up from center, but my eyes may deceive me...
Common grackle
Juvenile American robin
#actionsquirrel
Action... something!
Can only assume domestic dog, but what an eerie shot. Looks like a black dog of myth.
American Robins
Definitely looks like a gray squirrel to me
Woops - went too fast and missed the entering raccoon on right-middle!
That was my best guess, but it looked like it was hovering, lol! Think I see it now though - nose, paw off ground up front.
The grass is pretty short - likely just a leaf
I'm not sure what exactly this is... it looks like fur on a stool or something.
Oh, that makes sense, thanks! I usually see them at a different angle where their height stands out more.
Sometimes I'm glad the human photos get replaced on talk - this looks like I caught someone with their pants down in the middle of the night
Resting deer
American robin (Turdus migratorius)
#coyote - appears to have mange based on thin tail
Bird in the lower left-center - ID? Shape looks somewhat dove-ish
Most likely a bug caught in the camera flash
Too large for squirrel - likely opossum or raccoon
By color and size, probably raccoon
By tail and paw, domestic dog
Peering at it hard I see what looks like a raccoon mask.
Wood duck (Aix sponsa) male - and female?
Three male mallards (Anas platyrhynchos)
Oh I'm glad you found another photo of this critter! It gives a better sense of scale - I thought it was far larger than it is.
Horizontal climb? This is a new one for me! #squirrel
Marked this as a domestic dog for lack of a better guess - otherwise I'd guess a melanistic coyote? Ideas?
Muskrat, or a really dark opossum?
Branta canadensis
Lovely bird! I believe this is a red-bellied woodpecker (melanerpes carolinus)?
In the upper left? It looks like a rabbit to me.
Yes, this one tricked me at first too - but it is just the reflection of light on a plastic bottle.
#deer with fawns!
Turdus migratorius
Red-Winged Blackbird (Agelaius phoeniceus)
Most likely a human hand as a researcher moves with the camera, see ACH000bjc3 for example
#bird - looks like canada geese?
Looks like an opossum to me - white-grayish fur, thin tail, smallish round ears.
#fire
#dailyzoo
Looks like a starling to me. Definitely too small to be a heron or crow.
#deer Great nighttime deer shot!
A bit too solid and red to be a coyote, though very similar in size and shape. Looks like a dog & human.
I don't see anything identifiable - are you looking at the small light? That seems to be stationary over several photo.
This is a cat.
Ah I see it now - how odd, it doesn't immediately remind me of anything here. Looks big enough to be a coyote or a dog though.
Oh-ho! I know those guys! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CsEO3tNIVTE
#bird - looks like a crow
#bird - ID?
Curious critter - looks like an opossom in color and front of body, but the tail/back end is really odd shaped to me?
#bird - American Robin
#bird - pigeon
It's so odd, I've seen dozens of pictures of this rabbit in this exact pose...
Unclear if this is a dog or coyote.
#bird - crow
#dailyzoo #opossum
#bird - unsure of ID, looks like a dove though.
Ideas? Guessing opossum but I don't see the signature tail.
#bird - American Robins
In fact, looks like there's a woodchuck next in the sequence! ACH000bsn4
I don't see anything here.
I see one (left-center)... where are you seeing the other two?
Nice catch!
These look likely to be starlings
#deer #selfie #dailyzoo
#deer exiting on the left - see ACH0009ltm
That is just a stone or piece of trash - it is present in many photos and never moves. (I always think it looks like a fancy rat)
They are just leaves 😃 You can see them better here ACH0009htc
Hover rabbit? xD
#coexisting - somewhat rare sight! #squirrel in the same frame as a dog walk (and not being chased!)
Most upright I've seen a #squirrel - vigilance behavior?
Believe that is just a city light - see ACH000g1xl - but hope you spotted the bottom left critter!
Cat. See ACH00062ox
The shadow here makes this #squirrel look bi-colored!
Other vehicle here, no human visible in this frame.
The black spot on the tree is a scent bag.
@sbpj - since there is no deer visible, there isn't a need to tag deer at all. You only want to tag what you can see. 😃
Nope, they are just city lights
Is that a bird's wings/tail feathers in center-left?
Resting #deer
Looks like one of the collared coyotes
#bird - American Robin - in lower left on ground. Almost missed!
#flyingsquirrel - looks like one of the example images!
Well shoot, size always such a challenge! I was thinking the uniformity of color and shortness of tail made it a rat.
Based on the color, tail shape, and faintly visible striping on tail, I'd say this is a racoon
#deer fawn
#redfox
#deer - almost missed it!
Two #raccoon or one with something else in his front paws?
#deer - adorable fawn!
#bird - looks to be a pigeon
I would agree this is a rat. =)
Very blurry but it looks like the right shape and color, plus looks like you can see the facial mask.
I wondered rabbit, but then thought "no, it's too big to be a rabbit!" Thanks for the insight.
Woops, missed the squirrel in my haste to remark how lovely this location was.
Hmm, coyote?
Almost missed it, but looks like there's a squirrel near center (slightly up and left from the whtie spot on the tree).
Definitely looks like an American Robin male to me!
What a strange, spooky blur. I'm guessing cat, though I'm 50/50 on cat versus dog.
I did. Still didn't take. 😦
#bird #starling
#bird - likely starling
Curious - tagged as red fox because of size?
#bird - ducks, appear to be mallard
#mower (cannot tag in system, see help topic)
#squirrel - is this the infamously rare melanistic? I've never seen one this dark!
#bird - appear to be starlings
Oh gosh, what did they put on this poor dog's ears and tail xD
#mower - for some reason the system would not let me click identify on the mower category, so I selected human.
#bird - Starling, I believe? What a bright alert eye!
Pretty confident they're not rabbits, although they do look like pumpkins!
Eye glow in bottom right - blur makes it impossible to identify
Beautiful #squirrel shot!
#bird - one (grackle or starling) behind middle tree, two ducks (mallards?) in water.
Curious #coyote pup!
It almost looks like the form of a human bending over in the back. Stlil marked nothing here, insight?
#bird - starlings!
#bird - looks to be a starling
#dailyzoo - great shot of two grazing #deer
Is this a fox squirrel? The colors look more like a gray, but the size seems rather large given perspective.
#bird American Robin
Looks like a raccoon blur exiting mid-left
#spooky ghost #deer
I marked this as a rat, but is this possibly a young opossum?
I have actually seen a coyote and rabbit here too. 😃
There look to be a pair of eyes glowing middle of the photo, far back.
Some blurs in left-center that I think might be opossum or raccoon... really hard to tell.
This graveyard photograph is exposed in a really eerie way!
Daytime #rabbit
Dog & human blur. Dog shape looks similar to a boxer.
Looks like another deer - see ACH0009mtj
Looks to be a raccoon - dark, bushy tail with some wide striping
@minoumouse2 - if you look carefully you can see this area is burned and charred. The light is coming from glowing embers
My eyes got tricked by the lower right corner looking suspiciously like an eye and brown critter... and now it looks like fire here?
Almost missed the little #raccoon on the left!
#bird American Robin (male)
Great daytime #opossom shot - being inquisitive with the scent bag to boot!
Looks like a rabbit to me - back to the camera, head up and turned to the left
You're right @ForestPreserve this shot is spooky material!
Yep, definitely looks to be deer
Handsome daytime #coyote
It is an opossom, which have rat-like tails. 😃
There does appear to be a bird there!
The black thing in the middle-right, that's a scent bag. see http://talk.chicagowildlifewatch.org/#/boards/BCH0000002/discussions/DCH00002es
The straps are to keep the tree upright, I believe. The black thing to the right of the base of the tree is a scent bag.
There's clearly a #deer here but what got in front of the camera? It almost looks like a hand blocking the lens but highly doubt it's human.
Lots of animals seem to like to stand in that spot for a picture! based on ear shape, nose, height & eye width I'd agree coyote
I believe this is a domestic cat (tail shape, slight banding on tail)?
#bird - look juvenile?
That sounds right - it looked familiar. Don't have many robins here but used to have a lot where I used to live.
Flying opossom? xD
#bird - what might this be? The white near the eyes makes me think it's a juvie.
#raccoon babies
super #actionsquirrel
It could be an opossom, but the color and movement make me think it's a rabbit - bounding forward toward the camera.
#bird - is this a red-headed woodpecker?
Almost missed the fawn hiding behind mom's head!
Yote pup, as seen in ACH000bgef
Think this is a fox - the blur lets you see it has definite 'black socks' and it looks too lean/small to be a coyote.
#bird - likely two starlings
Looks like there's two #raccoon friends hiding in the bottom left and middle right beneath the leaves?
Has the variegated gray fur and ear shape of the opossum, doubt it's a cat, but it has nice looking fur - gave me pause
Little #bird
#bird - American Robin male
Great nighttime #skunk shot
Silly #raccoon
#coyote - almost missed the second one in middle-left moving into the frame!
Raccoon should be right, you can see some of the tail striping.
This looks like it might be a common grackle.
#bird - looks like a male and female grackle
Probably a raccoon
Lovely #deer with fawn
That's OK - I was doubting my own eyes and almost brushed it off as a leaf or branch in the grass! It's very well hidden.
Diagonally down and right from the base of the tree. There appears to be a striped brown object/creature that has a general 'munk shape.
No visible tail, general shape looks like a rabbit
Chipmunk? This'd be my first one!
#coexisting - two squirrels, one bird (a dove species I believe)
#bird - looks to be an American Robin male
#coyote
#coyote - also visible in ACH000fm3z
Hmm, is this a woodchuck, muskrat, or something else?
Curious grackle
Such fuzzy antlers =)
Looks like two common grackles 😃
Looks like a little flock of starlings or cowbirds?
#bird - appears to be a male mallard #duck
#bird - believe this is a common grackle
Appears to be a deer - see ACH000f9f7
Curious deer!
#fawn
#dogwalk
Looks canine - based on the size and tail 'shape' I'm guessing a domestic dog
Looks to be a raccoon. You can see the striped tail if you zoom in on ACH0005tef
Looks to be a rabbit
#bird - looks to be a common grackle
#coexisting
Two #squirrels - doesn't seem to happen often in these photos!
#bird - looks like a mourning dove
Looks like a #deer shadow coming from behind the camera.
Oh gosh, now I see it! The head turn really threw me (it looked like it had a tiny pencil neck).
This is a tough one, I'm guessing opossum on the branch? Doesn't seem to be present in other pictures.
Appears to be a #rabbit hiding in the trees?
This is a curious one - bird maybe? Back half almost looks like a rabbit ... raccoon in the sequence before and after.
Aww, looks to be a young #raccoon
I see an #actionsquirrel candidate!
Nice shot of three #deer together.
Looking at other pictures in sequence this is either a very well hidden & stationary critter or just a trick of the light?
This #bird thought he could sneak by the camera unseen
Curious little pair of eyes back there - any ideas? Rat?
The timing on this #squirrel shot is great!
Any idea what this little one might be?
Looks like someone's rolling around in the grass!
Appears to be a #fox?
That is a really weird shape - but I am guessing #deer (kind of looks like a lifted deer tail?)
What exactly is that at the base of the tree?
Nice night #raccoon capture
Looks to be a #cat
At first I thought these were deer, but based on the alignment and the number of "single" eyes, maybe something else? Human lights?
Looks like a #bird in the upper left based on eye glow and a zoom in?
Believe this is a Fox #squirrel based on the red color. Pretty nice day capture!
Fox or Gray #Squirrel? By the size I'm guessing Fox.
