interesting, so it is a critter. I can't seem to enlarge it from this format, but the face doesn't/didn't look like a raccoon. I have trouble judging size a lot, but the deer rather dwarfed this. What about a young beaver though? Or is the place somewhere where beaver could not be? Would a raccoon be carrying a branch in it's mouth, or is that juxtaposition just an optical illusion?

I think that the branch is actually a little bit away from the animal in the photo, and that we may actually be looking at its rump.

LOL! So I can't tell a face from a butt!! But, I got it enlarged and think you are right. Maybe looking at the tail of a raccoon with the stick crossing in front of it over a dark stripe...
