I don't actually think this is a cat. mink? raccoon with a messed up tail? Curious as to what others think.

I think it's a young raccoon, we've seen them with skinny tails...had to add fill flash in a photo program to see the ringed tail here

oh, thank you! I'd never seen them with skinny tails, but it has the prominent rump of a raccoon, so I'd wondered...
